The place seemed like a decent place at first, and in all fairness it is fairly new and clean. But the staff turnover is amazingly high, by the time I moved out (2 years) there had been four different managers, and not a single employee remains who had been there when I first arrived. As a result, there were periods of time when things were neglected (front gate was always broken, maintenance requests went ignored) and maintenance did not respond to after hours requests at all (one resident was locked out of her apartment). Several buildings were impacted last winter when the pipes burst - a neighbor of mine had to replace all of her belongings, from her bed to her computer. Someone was mugged in broad daylight in the parking lot this past spring. In short, the complex has a lot of issues.
And of course, since turnover is so high the apartment rules/policies change with the new managment. When I got a pet I was told that the $300.00 non-refundable pet deposit was used to replace the carpet after you move out. Now that I am out, they are trying to charge me $480.00 to replace the carpet. They say that the $300.00 pet deposit is for the privilege of owning a pet, not to cover damages incurred by the pet. And I can't prove that was what I was told, since the person who told me is no longer there!! Other residents have experienced similar mismanagement - for example, my neighbor's contract reflected that she only had to give 30 days notice... When she gave 30 days, they told her that the 30 was a typo, it was supposed to be 60 days, and although it was a signed contract, they insisted on charging her an additional month. All in all, my experience at Grande Oaks has been a bad one.
