Terrible First Apartment Experience

This was my first post college apartment experience. I moved out almost a year ago, since being in my new apartment I have realized all of the horror I was dealing with and should not have put up with.
Maintenance-
I had a toilet that overflowed constently! After 8 months of having guests over and there shoes being ruined with this problem, waking up at 1 am and dealing with it, they finally replaced it for me. Once they did replace it for me there were no more problems. However, it took 8 months to convince them to finally fix it. I often had to call maintenance for a broken doorknob, blinds breaking, ants etc. They always often had a comment for me that was inappropriate. Asking me if I had a boyfriend, would I be attending the pool party etc. Not what I wanted to be confronted with in my home.
Community-
I will be honest, it was nice to have a community with mostly adults and not too many kids. However, I had an incident with a neighbor who harrased me and I was not supported by the staff when I relayed this problem to them. There was also an attempted kidnapping while I was there, apparently it was a boyfriend/girlfriend related incident, but when I contacted the office for more information, I was very rudely told to mind my own business. There are homeless people who hang out in the area. In fact if you go to the Texaco on the corner you will most always be hit up for money while pumping gas.
The Apartment-
It is not as updated as you would think for the price, especially when the prices raise 200 a month within a year. Yes, you do hear your neighbors, which is common for almost every apartment complex. The carpet was very "used" and upon moving in our apartment had not been cleaned very well. We enjoyed the roommate plan and felt there was plenty of space for the two of us. However, there are bugs, and I had a problem with a tree basically growing into my window. Which took three weeks and four maintencne calls, to try and get the limb cut off that was scratching against my window at night awaking me, until my boyfriend finally hung out of the window and snapped it off for me himself.
Fitness-Pool Area-
The "fitness area" is a joke, the equipment is old and it is a musty room. It normally had equipment that was broken. The pool was a great pool, just be ready for the singles, apparently it is the place to be picked up and hit on! There were often parties every weekend with loud music, so if you dont care for that dont live close to the pool!
Gates-
They are always broken, especially the stop stick. I would be very perturbed watching three days pass on the weekend with the gates wide open for anyone to come in. Unfortunetly I guess the residents dont care enough for where they live and run through the gates to break them.
Overall a not so pleasant experience. I really had no idea how bad it was until I moved out and no longer had to deal with the same issues. I would not recommend!

Would you suggest your new apt complex? If so, what complex is it?
Thanks!!
