Honestly, sad to go...

This was the first apartment that my husband and I have had that wasn't a campus apartment. I have been more than happy with the Village and am very nervous to move! We wouldn't if it wasn't for my husband's new job that's significantly far outside the city.

The fact is, the village is a little pricey. I paid for it because I liked the personally manned security gate and the fact that it was easily accessible to CCT Route 10. The pet fee is more than unreasonable at $500 and I'm anxious to see if they'll keep it or not (though I am sure they will.)

I found utilities to be reasonable. However, never living anywhere else I don't really know comps in the area. We pay approx $60 for gas/electric combined (it does suck they are two separate bills and it has gone up to $100 during the winter months when we use a lot of gas/summer when we use a lot of electric), $30 for sewage, and $15 for water (yes, we own a washer/dryer.)

Honestly, the gate doesn't cost $50 unless you want the wireless opener which you can use from inside your car, which we got for free when they were holding a special. You don't have to go with Charter, unless you are a slave to your television. We pay $45 a month for DSL from AT&T (fastest speed they offer) and don't even have to have a phone line attached to it. (If I'm not mistaken, they also offer dish.)

I've seen two roaches the whole year and half we've lived here and we did have an ant invasion in the master bath but the next day they had someone come and spray (from Arrow none the less.) But honestly I'm not lame and I can go buy some Raid and deal with it for the most part by myself. Houses have the same issues.

Very occasionally I hear people outside, but it's limited and only for a few minutes when a group of people are heading in or out from a party. But I think I've probably been blessed with great neighbors. The woman who lives behind us has lived here a few years and although I don't talk extensively to the others around me, they are always friendly when we pass.

There was a serious fire that did scare me, though, which someone posted about before. I'm not going to lie, it was difficult to wrap my mind around that it could happen to me. But I think there's really nothing that can be done about that. Honestly, what can the property manager do' Monitor your life 24/7' I think it's a risk associated with any dwelling. If you're dumb enough to go without renter's insurance... well...

For the area, which is honestly a little sketchy until you get into the very expensive Vinings area, I feel this is a great deal for how safe and nice it's been to live here. Going through the apartment hunting process again has been difficult because I don't think I'll find somewhere like this where we're moving.

If you have reasonable expectations and don't blast your utilities then you'll probably find your stay to be a good one.

I agree with you I'm very surprised at the lack of bugs being in such a nature-intensive area. I am very nervous though with the management change and am anxious to see if things change for the worst. I think Sue was a GREAT property manager and am very sad to see her leave.

You have no vote if you've never lived anywhere else. This placed SUCKED. Oh, and btw, they not only will keep your pet deposit, but I GUARANTEE you they will send you an added fee since they know you had one. Theya are scams, and I'm 46 and have lived in enough places to have a valid opinion. I now own my own home and will NEVER go back to this hole in Smyrna.

Honestly, I don't understand how I have "no vote" due to my age. Sorry I'm not a cranky old fart. I have lived in apartments before, I was just not the leaseholder. As a matter of fact, several years ago I lived in one less than 3 minutes from The Village where girls were being raped. I remember what that felt like and I am quite pleased that I have never once had that fear living at The Village. In addition, the reason I qualified my age was because there are two schools close by (one of which I attended) and I personally remember pondering over which neighborhood to choose in the area and coming to this site. I would've appreciated it if someone had posted a review letting me know they choose with the same considerations in mind that I had. Of COURSE I would rather own my own house, I don't think there is any doubt HTMNKY, but when the economy is in the tank and your husband is the only one with a full time job and you're just starting out (or if you happen to be in school up the street) I certainly don't The Village is a bad choice.
