Very nice for Smyrna

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
We have lived in Walton for over half a year now. When we first arrived, a gaggle of teenage boys helped us move in (our u-haul was empty in 10 minutes), setting a great first impression.
We have had problems with a couple of neighbors, but the in-complex policeman (not a security guard, an actual policeman) has taken care of issues quickly. Following up on another post, Section 8 Housing doesn't exist here anymore; WG is too expensive for that now. I don't have a problem with Section 8, though (like with any housing) some people in the program are better than others.
Maintenance is done within 24 hours or you get part of your rent back. My husband is quick to call in maintenance problems, and they have always fixed them immediately. (We've never had to get any of our rent back.) Gary who does maintenance is one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. We have never had a problem with bugs, and we are in a first-floor walk-in.
The staff are extraordinarily courteous and helpful. They are always ready to chat but do not gossip about the various tenants.
The landscaping is gorgeous. Every month (even in winter), something bursts into color, whether it's trees, bushes with berries, flowers, etc.
A Smyrna policeman told me we're the safest complex in Smyrna among those close to the interstate.
So what problems are there'
The ceilings are thin. If I moved in again, I'd choose a top-floor apartment to deal with the noise from people above.
Occasionally a few of the visitors I see from outside the complex are a bit worrisome. However, I've never experienced a moment that was clearly unsafe. And the management encourages you to call the in-house officer or 911 if you feel unsafe.
We don't have kids, and the apartment complex is geared toward families. That's not a problem, exactly--it just means you shouldn't expect to be able to take a dip in the pool alone, and the office doesn't plan activities based on your needs unless you have kids.
From what I understand, rent goes up fairly steeply after you first year here. I'll be seeing whether that happens in a few months. If it goes up too much, we may opt to buy a house instead.
