I lived in St. Ives for a 10-month lease, just recently ended and I would recommend anyone to not chance it, although it has improved with the new management that took over a few months ago. In addition, they off no termination option with a fee to get out of the lease sooner than anticipated.
To mention a few of the problems, there is alot of rude, disrespectful people. There is alot of vandalism and theft, and there have been break-ins reported. The pool was not in operation for about a third of last summer due to vandalism and lack of pool maintenance, causing green fungus to form on walls & side of pools.
They had a plastic arm "gate" that was jokingly supposed to keep out unwanted guests, but some person or people kept breaking it as soon as it was fixed. It must have been fixed 2 dozen times before they finally gave up and removed the "gate". Although there actually is a metal gate at the entrance, it never occurred to them to use THAT gate (')
Residents of the community have been rude and I have witnessed fighting and abuse of pets. Many residents also use the grounds as a big garbage receptacle, but the new management has tried to abate this with a notice about fines for littering.
And the mainteneance staff which was not replaced with the new management, is very lazy and it takes them much too long to get done what MUST be done, and the rest they ignore. For example, someone broke a glass object right in the main entrance to my building and I pointed it out to the maintenance guy when he was coming by on his golf cart and he just said to get a broom & sweep it up myself. I guess he doesn't care if someone's kid gets cut and sues the complex.
the doors also allow enough clearance for the many lizards to get into the apartments , too, as I have found 6 of them in my home.
Also, a note about the onsite laundry facilities & fitness room. There has always been at least 1 machine out of operation and that also would take forever to get fixed. Someone also vandalized the fitness equipment and that too was out of operation for a long time.
Best advide is to try somewhere else that has a much better reputation before you get locked into lease that they do not allow you to opt out of.

I live at St. Ives too and the pool has worked all summer. I can't imagine the maintenance guy saying that to you about getting a broom and sweeping it yourself, however it does take everyone to make St. Ives beautiful- we all should do our part!
