Nice experience

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005

I moved to Winnstead apartments in August of 2003. My cousin and I shared a 3br/2ba with my two kids. I will say that the overall size of the apartment was quite decent for the price of $770 per month. Coming from the WDC area that was definitely a steal. Parking was ok, we never had a problem even when we came home late. Sometimes you would get neighbors that had 3 or more cars and only one of them worked. I don't know why they would let the cars sit in one of the first spaces not being used but that didn't bother me as much as it bothered my cousin.
The neighbors would speak sometimes but mainly I was close to the parents of the kids my kids hung out with.
The maintenance crew was efficient and speedy and we rarely had a problem with service. In the 2 years that I lived there we had our fridge and stove replaced, a new remote controlled ceiling fan installed and other fixtures.
Bugs, ONLY on the balcony. You would see a few waterbugs but the complex was surrounded by trees and ponds so what could you expect' There were no bugs found in the house, no roaches or ants.
I never had dealings with management but my cousin did. From her perspective the management changed so much and the new ones coming in like 2004/2005 were not helpful and not approachable. I think because they were more interested in the landscaping then for the tenants with kids. The play area which mgmt wanted to confine kids to was not well lit, it was surrounded by a ton of trees and the older kids from other complexes would come there to smoke cigarettes and other illegal substances.
The kids were not allowed to play in the street but mine did. I wanted to be able to see them and I flat out REFUSED to sit down by the mosquitoe ridden park to watch them.
So, overall it's a nice affordable way to start out. Especially with no kids or older kids. Otherwise I would think twice.
