When I first moved in, I had a great deal at $529 for a one-bedroom-and the maintenance even changed out the wallpaper in my kitchen because I had preferred the paper in the open unit I had been shown before.
Of course, I got what I paid for once I was actually a tennant. My apartment flooded THREE times. The first time, the maintenance worker came to fix a leaking hot water heater and broke a nozzle. The second time the hot water heater two floors above broke and flooded through the water heater closet down to my apartment. The third time the apartment next to me had a kitchen fire and the sprinkler system flooded through to my apartment. One of the maintenance men came in smelling like weed and moved as slow as a turtle. Another one was as bumbling of a repairman as Mr. Furley on "Three's Company."
Security wise, I personally never had any problems. However, the mailboxes were broken into twice. There was a known drug dealer living in the building next to mine. The children in the complex run around like they own the place, cussing and throwing rocks when they're not destroying property. When I first moved in, it seemed like a lot of young students and first-real-job folks mixed in with some single parent families. By the time I left, there were a bunch of apartments where the person on the lease was never around, but his/her five friends who just sat around all day in the parking lot drinking, getting high, and hanging out were!
Overall, the office staff was good, but they never cracked down on any problems or deal with any issues that came up with maintenance, security, or the quality of the complex.
