I decided to give Timber Trace a try because I loved the location and layout of the apartments. Besides, the rent was a steal for my two bedroom apartment - I should have known it was too good to be true. When I arrived on move-in day, I was taken to inspect the unit before signing my lease. Upon entering the unit, there were holes in the closet walls where the shelf had been previously damaged. The leasing agent was as horrified as I was. She noted this on my lease and I was assured it would be fixed within a week as they had to call in outside contractors. Needless to say, I'm still looking at the same holes. In addition, I don't know who they hire to clean the units between tenants but they did a poor job. . . the refrigerator was nasty, there was grime on the stove, and I found all kinds of keys, business cards, receipts, and dirt above the kitchen cabinets. Mind you, standing in the hallway, you could see that there was something up there. Not to mention the fact that the maintenance man just walked right in without knocking and no apology.
And do I dare mention the roaches'' Before I even moved anything into the apartment, I came a day early with nothing but cleaning supplies to THOROUGHLY clean. In the three hours I was here, I killed four roaches. I figured maybe they were strays (wrong answer). I immediately called for pest control and was added to the list for Tuesday. Between Friday and Tuesday, I killed so many roaches, it made me scared to turn off the lights (and I still don't turn them off). The seal on the refrigerator is not tight, so the little baby roaches (which the pest control agent confirmed) make their way into my refrigerator. I refuse to buy groceries for the week because I'm tired of the roaches. My daily routine has become stopping at the store on my way home to pick up whatever few items I will need to cook dinner - after cooking, I immediately clean up and take out the trash. Yes, I'm still seeing roaches - babies, "teen agers," and adults. When you see that many sizes/generations of roaches, you know there's a bigger problem. Needless to say, I have unpacked the bare minimum (plates, a few pots, TV, and CDs) - the rest will remain in my airtight plastic storage bins until my six months is up because I'm paranoid about these roaches migrating to my next living space.
The buildings are really old because I can hear everything that goes on upstairs, bathroom use and all. I know my neighbor's morning routine by heart beginning at 5AM because the floors are soooo thin. The kids play in the middle of the street and act as if they don't want to move when they see a car coming. As you would expect, some of the tenants just don't care. They leave debris in the hallways and grass. If they drop food/trash on the way to the dumpster, they just leave it. Loud music both in the apartments and the cars outside. Heaven forbid my neighbor decides to grill out in the parking lot next to his car. . . I have to hear his music all hours of the evening/night until he's finished.
All in all, the apartments themselves are nice, but they are in desperate need of renovation. The office staff is OK - other than the holes, they've been pretty good about following up on my requests. The maintenance staff is doing the best they can under the circumstances to patch up these apartments, but it's seriously time for RENOVATION. But hey, the one bright spot is the mailman - he's a real sweetheart and he can put a smile on your face any day. aLKeoXpj3s4OSgrp1trb
