Beware of the Trains...

I just moved into a one bedroom near the back of the complex and have just spent my first night here unable to sleep due to the very loud freight trains that run past the complex all day and night. I wasn't able to see where the apt. was located prior to moving in (in back, closest to train tracks) supposedly because it was still "occupied" but I wonder...
In addition to the trains running along side the complex you do not have your choice of cable company. They have contracted with some small company called DirecPath who only offer analog cable and although you can get satellite cable through them, you will have to sign a 12 month contract and pay $50 install fee (you will pay the fee for analog too). You can go thru DirectTV for satellite and get free installation, but unfortunately for me, my apt. is not in the line of sight and I am stuck getting analog from crappy DirecPath who only does installs m-f from 8-1; if I decide to get it I'll have to take off work for the install. I might just get my antenna back out.
In addition, the leasing office does not sign for packages for residents; so if you are at work when your packages are delivered (which most of us are), you will have to drive to Fedex or UPS or wherever to retrieve your packages. Or if your work allows, have it delivered there.
There are some other uncool policies(like if you get satellite cable thru DirectTV you have to pay the complex a $100 deposit) so make sure you get ALL the details b4 you sign a one year lease. I recommend only signing a six month lease so if you want to get out early you will not have to pay early termination fees and forfeit your deposit.
I can live without cable but not being able to sleep at night due to the trains is a problem. The apartments seem ok, but I've only been here for one day and will post an update later.
Hope this helps.

I have been a resident at Dupont Place Apartments for about 4 months now. The train did catch me by suprise. When I toured the complex, the people in the rent office did not mention that there was a rail line in the back of the community and I did not find out about it until the day of move in while the train was going by. I do agree with you on the ridiculous policies regarding the cable and not being able to get your packages because the leasing office will not sign for it. For the most part, the apartments are Ok, I think that they are a bit overpriced. I am glad that I did not sign a one year lease because I am considering moving somewhere else.

Good luck finding a better apartment! They are a little overpriced, but I found that you get what you pay for. The location is conveniant, and the amenities are very well kept. I lived there for 2 years, and I've been missing it ever since. I only moved because my boyfriend and I broke up, and I couldn't afford to live there alone. Now that I have a much better job, I am looking to move back in!
