Wouldn't stay even if it was free!

I could write a book on the experience, but to keep it brief, here's an outline:
1. The model was nice; the actual unit wasn't available to view until the last minute, and they were still working on it.
2. We found a leak from above bathroom, which we reported frequently for a month. They kept saying they'd come look, but never did. Then the ceiling collapsed. Black mold and rotten wood all over the bathroom. They said someone would come clean it in a few days! We had to contact main office in Texas before we got any attention.
3. Floors bowed, sagging, giving way; they covered with carpet without fixing anything. Often we almost fell just walking across a room. Bare dirt would be safer.
4. If you get any response from maintenance at all, it's a quick-fix patch job. Nothing gets repaired or replaced.
5. Noise from above, next door, and parking lot is unbearable (we could hear our neighbors controller clicking when he played video games). When upstairs neighbors came home, feet on the steps could shake the walls. Parking lot is an all-day, all-night frat party.
6. Office staff is very pleasant to your face, but can't tell truth. The promise to "put in a workorder" which we figure is code for put it right out of mind. When you call back, no-one ever heard of the problem, no matter how often you contacted them.
7. The terms of our lease changed continually. Much of it is not in writing. It took a month to get a copy of lease, and it didn't match the move-in document in terms of rent & deposit. We finally decided it wasn't worth going to court when they flat-out lied about the deposit terms when we moved (they kept $100 as "fees" that were not documented).
8. The on-site trash compactor is handy, but always surrounded by trash that people threw and missed the target, and by discarded furniture/appliances. It is also always populated by rodents and a horde of stray cats.
9. The rules about junk cars & repairing cars in the lot, parking in marked spaces, noise, junk piled up on balconies, and adherence to law make you think it might be a civilized place. Wrong. They don't enforce any of it. Just getting home can be an obstacle course through people and vehicles.
