Good stay

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008

I moved in at Amber Place in 2005 intending to stay for 6 months while searching for a house. I liked my apartment and ended up staying for 2.5 years; I finally moved out simply because I found a house I liked and decided to buy while interest rates were low. (I would've stayed at Amber Place if the bank had let me buy an airplane instead of a house, but that's a different story altogether.)

As one of the first tenants at Amber Place, I rented a brand new apartment, so everything was clean when I arrived; the marble counter top in the bathroom made it fairly easy to KEEP clean. I kept the whole apartment reasonably clean while I was there (for a single guy, that is), and I cleaned well upon my exit, but I didn't break my back to do it, and nobody's hassled me about it. I also rented a garage to keep my car and motorcycle secure and out of the weather, and it was a nice add-on; it was definitely worth the additional $80/month in my opinion.

I never had any trouble with the appliances, although I admit there was a learning curve with the oven: its thermostat wasn't quite right, but that was easily solved by cooking with a $3 oven thermometer I bought at Publix. Also, the oven vents out the back left eye of the stove, so if you bake a lot, it does warm the kitchen up a little bit.

The staff were always friendly to me, and they dealt promptly with any complaints. I only complained to them twice, and both issues (maintenance) were resolved the same day. The maintenance staff were always good about leaving notices for when they needed to perform routine maintenance on the apartment, and they left no sign that they had been there when they were done (except for the completed maintenance itself, of course). Finally, even though I was an infrequent visitor to the office, the office staff still remembered my name, which can't be an easy accomplishment in a well-populated community; it served to make the whole experience much more personal.
