Lenox Park Luxury Apartments

We moved into our apartment in late November of 2007. We immediately began experiencing respiratory problems because the carpet had been contaminated by the previous occupant with a deodorizer he used to mask his dog's excrement. He used HUGE amounts of it - enough to clog up our vacuum cleaner many times. It also caused bleeding sores on the soles of my feet. After 5 months of excuses, arguments & lies from management before they finally replaced the carpet. Even then, they expected us to move our furniture out of the apartment. In the meantime, they moved a couple with 2 small children into the apartment above us. The children were constantly running around, making it sound as though we were living inside a bass drum & rattling our ceiling fans - sometimes until well after midnight. Then we began to get calls from the office telling us that the couple upstairs were complaining about us playing loud music all night. (We're both in our late 50's & loud music really isn't our style) We do, however, have a home theater system. But we don't turn the volume up on it either. (Lenox Park advertizes its apartments are wired for surround sound) In any case, management would not enforce their own rules about disturbing neighbors & the children upstairs continue the near-constant running & stomping to this day. We made numerous calls to the 'courtesy officer' but never got any response. Finally, after we were awakened around 6:30 one morning, I confronted the neighbor as she came down the stairs & demanded that she control her children. She became belligerent & insisted they were not the source of the noise. Several nights later I came home from work early to find a Warner Robins police car parked in front of my apartment. As I was about to put my key in the door, an officer came down the stairs & said he was investigating a disturbance & that there was loud music coming from my apartment. I invited him inside where my wife was watching a news channel on TV. The officer then went back upstairs & advised the neighbor that her complaint was baseless. The very next night another police officer knocked at the door about 1:30 AM. He had received another complaint of loud music. But he said he had been standing outside our door for 10 minutes & hadn't heard any. So he told the neighbor that it was beginning to look like she was harrassing us. Again, apartment complex management refused to intervene. I was then taken to court by the neighbor who had filed a petition to have me arrested for 'disorderly conduct' because I had objected to being awakened by her children's running & stomping on the floor immediately above our master bedroom early in the morning. The judge told her that her problem wasn't with me, but rather with Lenox Park management. Then, topping it all off, our water was cut off one day shortly after my wife had gotten in the shower. I called the office & got no answer. I walked over to the office & found it locked. A note taped to the door said to call maintenance with any problems, so I did. I was told that a supply valve was being repaired & that a sign had been posted by the entrance gate advising of the interruption. I had several nights off, so I hadn't been through the gate to see such a sign. No other attempt was made to notify tenants that the water was going to be cut off. So I went to the apartment of the leasing manager & voiced my complaint that water was included in my rent - and that I've never been late on my rent. 30 minutes later I received a phone call from the owner who told me that if I 'bothered' any of his employees again, I would be thrown in jail. Finally, on the night of October 25th at about 11:30, the neighbor arrived with her children. The older child (3 years old) went up the stairs & began screaming & crying. My wife looked out the window to see what was going on. It seems the child had found a possum on their porch. Her mother called the leasing manager whose husband then went up the stairs carrying a large stick - presumably to chase the possum away. Instead, as the possum was trying to escape, he beat it to death as my wife watched. Then threw its body off the stairs outside our door & left it there. It was still there at 10:30 the next morning. We have chosen not to renew our lease. You may want to think twice before signing one yourself.
UPDATE: On 9/1/09 Magistrates Court awarded us 3 times the amount of our deposit plus court costs accruing interest at 6.5% until paid. The owner of Lenox Park Apts was our best witness in court. He lied to the magistrate & she knew it. We don't expect the owner of Lenox Park Apts to pay this judgement as ordered. He has repeatedly demonstrated himself to be unreliable & irresponsible. Now he has proven it in court. We'll see. If any current tenants have had problems with this man or his staff, feel free to contact me.

I am thinking about moving in but after reading these I am unsure. I know people have different experiences and opinions but it seems most responses are negative. Some of the positive responses seem to be written by mgmt. I have some Q's for someone who is a legitimate tenate and not mgmt. Are there a lot of children running around? I do not have kids and want a complex with out tons of kids. I know there are always children in complexes but are there a lot? Also, are the gates always kept close? This will be my first place by myself so safety is an important issue for me.

there are 2 school buses at the office in the morning. so yes, there are lots of kids. a few months ago a group of them were knocking on doors trying to sell something - despite the rule against soliciting posted at the gate. we chose not to answer the door. they knocked a couple of times. then they tried to open the door. don't know what they would have done if the deadbolt hadn't been locked.
