They've improved quite a bit

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008

The new management (Corridor/University West) at this place has made all the difference. We've been in a 3BR/2BA townhouse for a bit over a year now, and while we're not staying in this apartment another year, we have liked it quite a bit more since the properties switched hands.

We were lucky to get a "full remodel" townhouse - the lower level, excluding the bedrooms and bathroom, is fully floored in hardwood laminate. The kitchen has all new appliances (electric stove, boo), new cabinetry, and a fantastic island in the middle of the kitchen. I've seen an "older" townhouse identical to ours and the difference is unbelievable - I would have never agreed to live in one that hasn't been remodeled, as the kitchen in the older one is a total dump!

The bedrooms are nicely sized, and the master bedroom upstairs is humongous (as well as the adjoining walk-in closet). Like someone else said, though, the heating is a little bit off. In the downstairs bedrooms it is very drafty in the winter, and the master bedroom is always warmer than anywhere else in the house. I finally closed off both heat registers in the master bedroom this winter and it is a decent sleeping temperature now (along with keeping the ceiling fan running on medium). I'm not a big fan of the carpeting in the bedrooms or the rest of the house - white shag with weird dark flecks - but at least it all matches. The washer and dryer are very nice to have, but they're cheap models and don't do the best job of washing or drying (we usually have to dry stuff twice, and there's pretty much two washing options - cold or a little less than cold). The bathrooms are both very, very small, but every function is served (full tub/shower, toilet, sink with vanity) and the showers have great water pressure.

Like I said, things have really improved with the new property owners... the maintenance requests are filled promptly and correctly, and the driveways are cleared religiously during the winter. I've walked out to catch the bus in the morning to meet someone scooping my porch at 7 AM even when it wasn't really that bad to begin with. They seem to be cracking down on the ISP of choice in Ames apartments as they have been providing better internet service lately (after I imagine UW got sick of fielding complaints from tenants). If they'd just lower their rates a little, I'd be far more likely to stick around for years to come.
