The management is snooty and very impersonable.

1) The parking S-U-C-K-S!!! I can't stress this enough!!! Forget it if you want anyone at all to ever come by. I'll share my personal experience to illustrate:There are about 6 vacant spots on the far East row of the parking lot. There are also 2 parking spots that are named "Guest Parking - 2 hour limit". Now, those 2 spots are ALWAYS taken. My girlfriend came to stay with me from out of town. She left her car in one of the 6 vacant spots because the 2 guest spots were taken. The management had her car towed!!! She was in a VACANT spot. She had to pay $185 bucks to get her car back. When she called to plea with the management to please waive the fee and to ask why they had the car towed, they had no sympathy whatsoever and just kept repeating that "there are 2 guest parking spots available in the lot" - like a tape recorder. She asked why they had her towed from a vacant spot and they said thats just their policy.

2) Cheaply constructed, I'll tell you why:
-You'll notice when you take the apartment tour that there is no baseboard at the base of the walls. Hence the wall cracking at the base.
-The "closet" in the bedroom is a joke. There is hardly any storage in this place, and the closet doesn't even have any kind of door on it.
-This place is always very hot. The thermostat does not work. I have had the heat turned down to 60 on the thermostat and at times it gets up to above 80.
-Yes, there is a washer/dryer unit in the bathroom, but it's so stupid where it's placed, you can't even open the door all the way.
-There is no garbage disposal in the sink. You don't realize how important that is until you don't have one.
-There isn't a dishwasher. What kind of apartment that was built after 1995 doesn't have a dishwasher? (for the price I pay for this place).
-The decks are a joke. Ugly wooden unfished planks slopped together to create a railing. They are way too high, and they block out all the sunlight.
-There is a frat house right next door and the sound insulation is non-existent. That makes for many nights of involuntary eaves-dropping on drunken frat-fights. Very annoying.

If you want to throw your money away and live in a crappy place and never have friends over, this is the place for you. SEk1KnECheF1ATXbXtrZ

Manager's Response

Mistaken identity.

The opinion expressed is for a different property, not Oakwood Apartments. Although the opinion may be warranted for where the author was staying, we believe the placement of the opinion is in error. Listed below are the inconsistencies that lead us to our conclusion.

1) We have plenty of parking. We DO NOT have 2 parking spots that are named "Guest Parking - 2 hour limit."

2) -All of our units have baseboards.

-Our closets are VERY spacious.

-We have 4 x central washer / dryer rooms with plenty of space for their doors to open fully. They are NOT located in the units themselves.

-All units HAVE a garbage disposals in them.

-All units HAVE a dishwasher in them.

-We DO NOT have a fraternity house next door.

If you are considering an apartment in Ames, stop by and see us. We are proud of our management staff, maintenance staff, and our property.
