Overpriced and underdelivered. I lived here from 2007-2008 under Melissa Pierce, the former manager, and was left with much to be desired. However, with the new manager Scot Knock and the promise of changes on the way, I renewed for 2008-2009. I should have moved.
The office staff (with the exception of Jackie - she is just delightful!) is dreadful. Scot (the property manager) is a ---- and doesn't respond to tenant concerns, unless it's to defend himself in some way. Communication among the staff is limited at best, so you find yourself constantly having to follow up on even the smallest issues. My apartment is decent, but WAYYY overpriced compared to similar units in Ames. My bedroom shares a wall with the stairwell, and is paper thin - I am constantly being woken up in the night from people just walking up and down the stairs, not being overly loud. In all fairness, I do enjoy the location of the complex because of the quiet surroundings, except that Billy Sunday Road is poorly maintained in the winter months, and that the complex is not on a bus route. The maintenance staff is horrible at getting the parking areas cleared of snow in the winter, and the sidewalks are not salted often enough - both my roommate and I slipped and fell a few times this winter. Utilities seem to run high here as well, but I don't know that that can be attributed to them. Parking is ample with the exception of bldg. 416 and the west side of bldg. 510 - never enough spots. There always seems to be a new policy being implemented with little to no notice given to residents, for example: the Tuesday after Spring Break, there was a notice posted on the main door to the building advising that all residents with a bicycle needed to get it registered with the office by Friday of that week, or the bike would be removed at the bike owner's expense- only 96 hours notice (side note - all they do is give you a small laminated tag and a zip strip to attach the tag to your bike - you fill out no information at all - stupid policy). Overall, I'd say this place really could have a lot of potential if it were run by a more efficient, courteous, and capable staff and lowered its rent rates.
