Hillcrest is what you make of it

I have lived at Hillcrest for two years now.
Positives: apartments are newer, large kitchen, 2 nice bathrooms for four people, the porches/patios are big enough, washer/dryer in each apartment, free internet and free basic cable, maintenance is quick and efficient

Negatives: the manager is really difficult to deal with most days, she is mostly incompetent and a shady businesswoman (if the title even applies); she will ask you to re-sign your lease in Febuary (long before you even know if you are going to stay there next year) and basically threatens that your apartment will be leased out from under you if you don't re-sign on time; the walls and ceiling (on the first floor) are not adequately insulated for silencing loud neighbors (every year I've had really annoying neighbors upstairs; shouting, stomping, screaming at eachother and the TV while playing loud music and video games- I can hear most of this); some of the people who live out here will bother you, it's an inevitability

The reality is that this is a college community, made of up college students. Most of us are nice and quiet. A few of us are loud, obnoxious tools and/or drunks. It's a great place if you have many friends living around you or with you. It's easy to throw a party, but beware of underage infiltrators and the cops. If your party gets too big, it will get busted. Management is a pain, but you really don't have to deal with them very often. Life out here is what you make of it. I've had great times with friends and neighbors and I've had a couple of bad experiences. When there aren't any parties, the whole place is nice and quiet. Hillcrest is on the edge of town, but only about 3 blocks from campus, so walking to class is still an option for those of you who aren't lazy. Not much else to say.
