think twice about this one

I lived in the lofts for about 4 months and it was the worst experience I have ever had! Bad communication from the loft manager and loft owner (who lives in TEXAS). How do you manage/own a loft from two states away' Not to mention the loft manager who's husband is the maintenance man.
The hallways are very noisey-you can hear everything from the conversation to stiletto heels, parking is 1/2 a block away and is not very well lit, the brewery across the street is always busy so the parking sucks directly surrounding the building. Mainenance is ALWAYS having to update this update that and seems they are always in your loft. Watch out for the crack dealers on the south side of the building in the early morning and late evening.
And let me not forget the cockroach that appeared in my loft. 2 inches long and 1 inch wide. Nice! They claim it flew in from my window - and don't forget the screenless windows. Feel sorry for your cat when it attempts to jump out.
God forbid if you get locked out and your passsword does not work.
If you do choose to live there, good luck!

Manager's Response |

| Most mid-sized apartment facilities or larger are not managed directly by their owners. We relied on our management company, manager, and her staff. Since you resided at 10th Street Lofts, we have terminated the management company, the manager and her staff, all for poor performance. Other matters: 1) We are located in an urban area, although we believe in a very nice part of downtown Des Moines. We were unaware of any illegal activity occurring in our neighborhood and have been unable to identify any other person who has noticed it. Nonetheless we intend to report this incident to law enforcement. Two luxury condo projects have opened in our block since this tenant resided with us. 2) We feel fortunate to be able to offer parking as close as 1/2 block from the facility. The light for the parking lot is provided by the city street light. A police station adjoins this lot. 3) These building are a former factory and warehouse. They have high ceilings and polished concrete floors which we believe makes the space very unique. Excessive noise in the hallways does carry. We continually remind our tenants of this fact and request they be sensitive to creating any noise. As a result, most tenants comment as to how quiet our halls are. 4) When this tenant lived in our facility the buildings had just opened. As a result, we had some star-up issues with the mechanical systems that required us to enter the units more than expected. Such issues have long ago been resolved. 5) The interior of the these old buildings was completely demolished and rebuilt in 2005. We have new cabinets, polished concrete floors, concrete ceilings, and brick exterior walls. We have no carpet or draperies (instead we have vertical blinds). There are few places for bugs to hide. We have a full time cleaning person and our buildings are treated for bugs monthly. We have never had a pest issue and genuinely believe that the bug you discuss did come in through the window or was carried in by your pet. | |
