I lived here as a child in the early 90s with my mother and enjoyed it, then in 06 at the start of adult hood i decided to come back. That was the worst mistake I could have made. I lived on the bottom floor of this apartment complex, when i moved in there was a terrible oder that they claimed was from carpet shampooing, it was so strong i had to wear a gas mask, rewash the carpets myself, and let it air out for 2 days while i stayed at relatives. The toilet flooded the bathroom 3 days after i moved in (after the oder insident) they told me I was a liar and that the toilet was "new" from when i moved in, 30 hours after my first complaint and several wet towels later they came back resealed the toilet and said it was fixed, 3 hours later my hallway was wet, two days later i finally got a brand new toilet, and while we are on the issue of the bathroom, the bathtub has had mold on it since i moved in, they say it is dead, and i constatly spray it to be sure. The sink was leaking for a year before anyone knew it, they had to redo the sink area, the bathtube has broken 3 times and leaks now, causing water stains, they say it wont be fixed til we move out. The fan does not work well and told us we are not allowed to clean it, but we can never get maitenance to fix it. The spare bedroom has a hole in the wall near the floor since i moved in, i literally can see my neighbor. The windows leak and do not close all the way, therefore they mold in the winter. Our bedroom window is the same, and has rods sticking out of the ceiling from old plant holders they never took out. There is a hole in the ceiling from a poor cable install job they refused to pay to fix when i called it a safety hazard. The cable jacks int he front room did not work, i had to pay to get new ones installed, the phone wiring in this apartment does not work and i could not afford to fix it and claimed we broke it when i had the gentle whom was going to install it, sign a notarized leter they changed their story but still refused to fix it. Therefore i have no phone. The living room has no light at all, half the electrical outlets in the living area are broken, the air conditioner does not work really good, they refused to fix it, so we deal with it, it also makes the apt. smell funny when on. The kitchen fridge is broken yet again i got the not til i move out excuse. Two of the cuboard doors have not shut since before i moved in, the sink leaked, grew mold for two months they they sparyed it and painted over it, i judge weather or not they fixed it. The sprayer broke, the fuse constantly goes off, you get shocked changing the bulbs. Also a pipe burst under my apartment and they destroyed most of the wall in my kitchen and did not fix it for 9 months that was when i threatened to call the city on them, there is still a hole in my wall the size of a golf ball where they forgot to patch it, the outlet that was in the middle of that hole for the dispossale, does not work now. The hood on the stove does not suck up air, and the floor infront of it has been curled since we moved in. To top this all off the heat in my apartment does not work and is a literal 40 degrees in the winter. We have space heaters to heat ourselves, they told us that we werent working the heater right, they could not get it to work either. The garages have graffeti on them for 3 months now, they are doing nothing about. The pools (there are two) are never open at 10am like they should be, its closer to 1-2pm they open and usually close early instead of at 8pm. The infant pool and the second pool are never open, and are poorly cared for. There is also never any parking infront of your building, so you have to park on the other side of the complex, its rather a pain for the amount of money i pay to deal with all of this. To top this off in april instead of fixing our apartments they tore up all the landscaping to put in big rocks.

On a side note, my motor cycle got ran into once, and then scraped the whole left side off of the second time, I also had someone mess with my car and burst one of my tires.

I would not recommend ANYONE live here, there are better places out their and if you have children dont put their lives at risk.

I move out in september and am almost in the right mind to turn these people into the health department or whomeever. These apartments are falling apart and should be torn down.

This sounds right to me. I have seen it. The only thing the manager cares about is her hair style and her dogs. Dont blame the owner he only knows what the manager tells him. I would'nt recommend this place or any of there other properties (Woodside Park, Park Ridge)to anyone. If you rent from them you get what you deserve and that is nothing!!!!

You're talking about the Prairie Woods Apartments in DES MOINES, correct? I've lived here for six months and I haven't had anything close to the problems described in this post.

Agreed. The manager is worthless and the asst. manager lies! These people have the worst customer service ever! I actually moved out because of many issues similar to these! I'm in a battle with them right now because they do NOTHING to help out their tenants. They deserve all of these terrible comments!

As being a former resident, this place is a dump, windows dont have latches but sticks to keep them from opening, had a break in, was accused of having a master key to everyones apt after the breakin, cars in the parking lot do get stripped, and yes their is tons of drug activity going on in that complex, my 2 cents stay away from this low life gehetto, btw if the same apt manager is there from 2004-2005 she doesnt have a high school diplomia, now that would tell you something about how this place is ran, very shady swallow people who run that so called, dump,
