Avoid This Place...

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
My fiance and I just made the mistake of signing a one year lease here at Weston Park. We had been living in a loft downtown. We liked the idea of paying less and getting free parking and at first glance the apartment didn't look too bad for being one of the "updated models." When we were first looking at the apartment there was a smoke detector beeping because of a low battery. The girl showing us the apartment assured us that it would be taken care of before we moved in. A service they also offer here is that they will paint an accent wall for you before you move in for free. We also set that up at that time. After that we felt confident that everything would be fine so we agreed to sign the lease.
Two weeks later when we moved in we discovered a list a mile long of things wrong once we had the time to examine the apartment with the move in checklist. First off, the smoke detector hadn't been touched. The accent wall hadn't even been painted yet. Which meant we couldn't move our things close to that main wall since the painter had to come still. The fan in the bathroom was completely old and sounded horrible when turned on. The clothes rod in the closet sagged and almost broke when we hung clothes up, the garbage disposal was completely clogged and obviously didn't work, the patio door looked at least 15 years old if not more. One of the main doors on it was banged up to the point that it didn't even lock...
The WORST part of the move in was definitely the dishwasher though. The first night we moved in, we went to do a load of dishes and when we pulled the top rack out the whole dishwasher came out of the wall. It wasn't screwed it whatsoever. I tried to ignore it and we ran a load of dishes anyway and it rattled but we thought it still did the job. The next morning we checked it and to our surprise, not only had it not cleaned them, but no water had even gotten in to the dishwasher. There was no hose connected at all. Pretty good for the "updated" apartment, I would just love to see a non updated one.
Just like everyone else has stated on here, the parking IS really bad... during the day there are spots but at night, they are few and far between. You can NEVER find one in front of your building and with the poorly lit parking lot and the rumors of cars getting broken into and other things going on... it's just not very inviting.
Maintenance fixed the problems I was having for the most part, but only after I went over to the leasing office and raised my voice to the property manager and the girl who showed us the apartment in the first place. That is probably the only way you will get anything fixed fast to your apartment here. The maintenance guys are nice though.
I also have a friend who moved in to a two-bedroom unit about 3 weeks ago and she's already had to have maintenance come fix her toilet twice and two nights ago it completely overflowed and leaked down into the apartment below her. It's a complete nightmare so far. It really is. Our whole main area of our building smells like a litter box. Nothing I've written on here is blown out of proportion or exaggerated in any way. I'd go back to my old apartment and pay the extra money in a second.
