You can do better!

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
When I first moved in, I was quite happy with the complex as well as the management. Many of the amenities are still okay, such as the fitness room. However, management and maintenance have gone severely downhill.
Some examples:
My toilet backed up while they were working on the plumbing next door. When I spoke with the manager about it, I was told that someone from resident relations would contact me about reimbursement for damaged items since maintenance was aware that a backup in my apartment was a possiblility due to the nature of the work next door(everything but my shower curtain was ruined). No one ever contacted me.
Over the past 3.5 months, I have been locked IN my building due to malfunctioning security doors FOUR times!!! We have had to walk through the garage to get out. Not only incovenient, but embarrassing (when I have guests over) and dangerous.
Washers and dryers are average at best. My clothes are often not fully dry when I take them out, and I do not overload the machines. I don't believe the temperature settings on the machines work, either.
My power blew twice in one week. The first time they just came and reset the breaker while I was at work. The second time I was there, and watched the gentleman check the outlet I had reported sparks from (yes, this happened the first time too). When he unscrewed the outlet cover, the ENTIRE inner mechanism fell out into his hand!!! It was covered with soot, and made me feel very uncomfortable about the safety of the wiring in the walls.
Management is generally unresponsive/slow to respond to maintenance requests. I have had to visit the office twice on each of my last 2 maintenance calls. Both times, there was no record of my first visit/request for repair. Believe me the office hours are inconvenient is you are single and work during the day.
Gas and electric costs become EXREMELY high in the winter and summer, respectively. I live in a one bedroom on a middle floor, yet electric costs have soared over $90 this past summer, and I'm afraid of my gas bills this winter due to past costs rise in gas rates. I have asked management to check the efficiency of my HVAC, and they just say it's fine. However, when my AC stopped working, the maintenance man had to find someone else to fix it because (IN HIS WORDS), it's Richdale - they buy cheap stuff! It doesn't help that the apartments are designed very inefficiently for air circulation.
It has become quite frustrating to live here. The location is great, but I highly doubt I'll be renewing my lease, due to unconcerned management and mediocre maintenance. Unfortunately, I also doubt I'll be getting my deposit back after reading some of the other reviews for the Richdale Group (management company) properties. If you decide to move here, be very detailed on your walk-through sheet.
