10 Reasons not to live here.

I have lived here for three years for only 2 reasons-- it's cheap and it's extremely close to school and work. I hate this place. The staff is super nice atleast though and I really like it that they have little "community" events. The following are biggest problems I have/had with Hawkeye:

1)My boyfriend, Myself, and 2 of our neighbors all had our cars broken into last Spring. There is no security. I got off lucky, they only took my stereo. However, from my boyfriend's car they stole his stereo (tore up his dash to get into it), a leather jacket, ipod, cd's, etc. They even threw a rock through somebody's car window to get in. NO SECURITY!

2) Bug problems. Throughout every season I've had some sort of bug related issue. For the first summer here, I had crickets..probably due to the fact that I'm located right next to the field. The worst though, the fall of 2003 AND 2004. MILLIPEDES. DISGUSTING! They crawled in under my door and there would be literally dozens of them at night, unless I sat by the door with a can of bug spray. Which leads me to number three...

3) Poor Maintenance. I told the office about my millipede situation twice...and it took them 3 weeks to finally come fix it. But it didn't even get fixed! They put a different piece of wood under my door, but it didn't change a dang thing. I still had a jillion millipedes invading my apartment (and my dreams...)

4) Paper Thin Walls. Every step, every flush of a toilet, every door that opens or closes...we can hear it. The water pipes for some of the other apartments go right through my bedroom closet, so when somebody takes an early morning shower "WHOOSH" and I'm awake. You can also hear everyone's fire alarms every night when they're making dinner...so here comes number 5...

5) Ridiculously sensitive fire alarms! I couldn't even make a frozen pizza without it setting my fire alarm into a nervous breakdown. It was so loud and obnoxious and would keep going for 20 minutes. Thus, it is now no longer attached to the ceiling and has also been deprived of batteries.

6) Completely inconsiderate neighbors. I'm sure you get that anywhere you go...especially since the people are all college students. I can't count the number of times where I've been awakened in the middle of the night by hollering drunks outside my window. In two recent occurances, there were obnoxious people shouting for a good half hour at 3 am, then the police came...the drunk people hid in an apartment to fool the cops, and we ended up with police shining flashlights into OUR bedroom window for 20 minutes while we were trying to sleep.

7) People drive through the lots like their running from the cops. Which they probably are half the time. But anyway...I'm pretty sure there's NO REASON to drive 50 through our parking lots.

8) My oven was a piece of crap. This is probably related to number 5. It took me 6 months to figure out how NOT to burn food when i cooked. What's the secret' Dial the oven temp down 50-75 degrees. Plus, my oven was about 1/4 of the size of a real oven, making it difficult to cook anything larger than a Totino's.

9) It smells like poop out here. No joke. Right next to fields AND a landfill! Awesome! It either smells like poo or garbage, depending on how the wind blows that day.

10) Once the heat is on in the winter, there's no way to cool it down. I can set my thermostat at 50, but it will stay 75 in there until you open a window. But wait...according to a new rule here, if you open the windows in the winter, you get a fine!! Cool!

And here ends my review. I think you catch the point...though I'm sure there are many more things I could mention.

So basically...learn from my mistake...don't live here.

Somebody bump into my car yesterday night in my apt. I didn't hear it, but I am tired of people driving fast around, careless or drunk students. Can you please give me more information about your time here. I trying to think what to do. My mail is loamie10@hotmail.com
