I am writing this piece on behalf of any and all Sun Prairie apartment residents in West Des Moines who are feeling the same way I do about the disregard Sun Prairie management has for their tenants and tenant issues. I have been a tenant in good standing with Sun Prairie for almost 18 months. I will admit, up until recently, I have enjoyed my time there. I was, however, unaware of the significant lack of security Sun Prairie offers. Please heed this warning and do not be fooled as I was by the safety features Sun Prairie boasts. The cameras in the Sun Prairie parking lots do not move nor do they record. How is this a crime deterrent' As I have learned, it is not. You can do whatever you want, abduct, assault, light cars on fire and they will never be able to catch you. Also, they do not have secured access to any of their buildings. When I asked them why, their response was that they feel that it is not worth it and that if people want to get in they will. Well, here is what has been having the past few months. Please note, these are just issues that have happened in my building Sun Prairie management does not tell you what is going on so I have no knowledge issue in the other Sun Prairie buildings.
In the recent past, a few troubling issues have occurred. The first being a domestic dispute which ended in the destruction of three vehicles in the Sun Prairie parking lot. Rather than helping their troubled tenants, Sun Prairie sat idly by. They took no physical action to prevent such an occurrence from happening again. Now, for the second time in the 18 months I have lived there, a girl was assaulted in the building I live in. When I called to complain about not feeling safe they told that there was no reason for them to take any action. When I pressed them further on how it is their job to take care of their tenants and I do not feel safe living there, Sun Prairie management informed me that instead of being the kind of person that blames others for their problems, I should be proactive and take care of myself. I was outraged. My husband immediately called and asked to speak to that worker s boss. To make a long story short, Sun Prairie feels they are justified in both not doing anything and speaking to me like that. They refuse to apologize for blaming me for being upset that another girl was assaulted in my building. They refuse to take any proactive action to prevent this from happening to another one of their tenants. With extreme disappointment, we will have to pay $622.50 to break our lease 30 days early just to have piece of mind and a sense of safety. Sun Prairie management refuses to let us break our lease for free even though it is their fault we have to move.
I strongly encourage anyone looking for a place to live NOT to look at Sun Prairie apartments in West Des Moines. Not only do they not care about your safety, they do not even care about you as a person.

When the scum migrates to wdm.....Nevermind it's here. We can all be thankful to SUN PRAIRIE. Where else can you go in wdm and reproduce siblings. not work more than 2 days a week and still party like a rockstar? You got it....SUN PRAIRIE. Rent is almost free if the 2 days a week that you work brings your yearly wage down to minimum. Now if they can party for free SUN PRAIRIE is the spot to be. Whoops! Another sibling.

I moved out of Sun Prairie about three months ago for the same reasons. My lease was up in Januarary but I moved in December and paid for the month. Then when I moved out they tried to bill me for cleaning after I received notice that I was fine plus they tried to charge me for the carpet to be replaced after I lived there for five years. I sent them a certified letter disputing the fees but have not heard back. There is an agency in Des Moines who works with tenants against bogus charges who I am working with on this matter and will fight the charges

It is amazing to me how ignorant you all sound. For one, Sun Prairie is the largest complex in not only the West Des Moines are, but all of greater Des Moines. This is the US and there people of all kinds, whether you agree with this or not, deal with it. I reccommend you go to Chicago or even New York and try to live there. You would come running back to here. I think you should try to learn more about the system before you go and make comments that make you seem very uneducated. As for the carpet incident.....as a tenant it is your respnsibility to read the lease and all terms that go with it. Most complexes require the tenant to keep the maintence of the unit as the owner is as well. Carpet has a life of at least 9 years and so there must have been damage done while you were living there for them to want to replace it.

It is actually very nice to receive both positive and negative feedback about our apartments. I am the manager and we accept everything folks have to say, understanding that people are very passionate about their homes. We do maintain the property to a higher standard, and what I sometimes find is that when we hold residents to the terms of their lease and that standard, they can get angry and visit websites like this one and post anonymous insults. I encourage anyone who is looking for an apartment to definitely shop around, visit the grounds, visit our office, and see for yourself. Thanks for reading!

The problem isn't that you're holding tenants to your lease - in fact, I never had issues in that regard - but moreso that your staff is complacent. That wasn't always true, definitely not when I moved in, but my move-out experience was so terrible I would never recommend your apartments.
Your employees are invasive and rude. They do not show the common courtesy of 24 hour notice on showings. Rather, the policy is "call when you're leaving the office, so even if they call you back to ask not to stop by, you'll already be gone".
Frankly, I am amazed that you have not been taken to court over evening and early weekend morning showings with zero notice.

Notice that the "manager" always has time to respond to messages on "websites like this one" in regards to their tenants that "get angry and post messages on [websites like this one.]" I think getting rid of the management would be a great start. Too bad that Professional Property Management, Inc has the same kind of employees. I visited with one of their representatives almost a year ago and they were equally as rude as the site managers. They have no tact and absolutely no sense of business etiquette.

Well I don't know about people having "time" for things. But don't you think it's important for people to know what their customers are thinking or feeling in order to be able to improve or change their business? Frankly I would be more worried if they didn't care and just ignored everyone elses feelings. I'm sure this little site isn't the only place they do that at, it's probably one of many things they look at to gauge peoples opinnions..but then, that's just common sense.
