Sun Prairie promised us that they would call us about availability of an apartment by a certain date, after waiting an extra 2 days we decided to look elsewhere to find a place to live. Keep in mind they make you sign a lease before your approved. We found a nice town home to rent in the mean time. Another 2 days goes by, and then we were notified we had been approved, we told them that was nice, but we found another place to live, as it took them too long to notify us of our approval. They then informed us that they would keep our deposit and have the keys ready for us to move in. We were shocked, we NEVER moved in, and still had to pay rent for the place. After further inspection of the fine print we noticed it said nothing about the notification date, and also they made the lease out for 13 and 1/2 months instead of the 12 months we had originally agreed on. Long story short had to pay for application fees, utilities, rent for every month it was not rented out. And we NEVER EVEN MOVED IN!

I live here and I can tell you that everything was explained at application. You obviously didn't listen to the staff or didn't read the application/lease. It's your own fault if you don't read to what you sign or listen to the staff. I love Sun Prairie and have lived here for many years and have never had any problems. Sun Prairie is a great place!

Let me reiterate once again! What the STAFF said, and what I SIGNED were TWO DIFFERENT THINGS! HINT: THE STAFF LIED!
It's obvious you work there, I mean who checks the ratings of an apartment that they reside in. People who read these will know, there not all suckers like I was.
DON'T RENT SUN PRAIRIE!!!

I have to say I never had an experience like this person, but there were some instances in which office staff were, let's just say, possibly confused on what appropriate policies may have been. Some office staff truly are fantastic and care about tenants, but what is more important to renters are those staff that are just poor with customer service; those tend to be the experiences that stick with people, unfortunately. Sad to say, Sun Prairie has more bad than good.

Just a comment about cofusion about appropriate policies. I am a leasing agent (not at Prarie Sun) and I know I was confused when I first started about different policies that the facility I work at had. In the time I have been a leasing agent, I have also learned that people take things personally and generally lie and complain about nothing. There are just some people out there that like to complain. I am not from Des Moines, so I am trying to figure out where to send people when we are full. It sounds like Prairie Sun used to be bad, but has made an effort to be better. I hope the people that didn't like it all found places they could enjoy.

A rental application is a contract. You should read every contract you sign BEFORE you sign it. It may not be "right" to do what they did, but what is with this entitlement everyone thinks they have these days when they mess up. Bottom line, lesson learned, read everything before you sign it.
