I currently live at Sun Prairie Apartments. This is my first apartment of my own, but I've lived in a number of others, growing up. I like my apartment a lot. The only downsides that I've noticed are as follows:
No pets allowed.
Window unit A/C only.
Somewhat crappy laundry facilities in my building.
They only allow you to use a third-party provider for cable and internet. (Or so they say...)
We have only had a couple of maintenance requests and they have been pretty quick about it, except when the A/C broke down on the hottest day of 2008.
Parking is plentiful, the buildings are nice, and the apartments are fairly nice.
The only reasons I might move in the near future are for a pet and to be a little closer to downtown.

You are very right about the window a/c issue. It may not be a huge deal for those who live in a smaller apartment. However, one window unit in the living room is not enough to cool an entire 3 bedroom apartment. You are completely misreable at night during the summer. We spend many summer nights "camping" on the living room floor with the bedrooms closed off. There were many summer days that the temperature did not drop out of the 80's in the bedrooms. The solution, according to Sun Prairie staff, was to run the air unit all summer without turning it off on cooler days. I didn't notice any change in the overall temperature in the apartment throughout the summer I did that, but I DEFINITELY saw an increase in my utility bill. And, the utility guarantee is a complete joke. In 3 years, my electric bill HAS NOT ONCE been lower than the "guaranteed" amount, and they only offer the utility guarantee the first year.

Thank you for your positive comments. We always appreciate when folks pepper their constructive criticism with acknowledgement of some good things. For many people, having a pet community is problematic. Unfortunately it only takes a few irresponsible pet owners to ruin it for everyone. Regarding the air conditioning, there are a number of solutions we can offer if your apartment is not COMFORTABLY cool. My biggest concern is the comment over the laundry room. I would welcome a call on extension 118 letting me know which laundry room you are speaking about so I can look into that complaint specifically. Thanks.

I'm the original poster... Our response to the A/C issue was to have a couple of fans blowing the cool air from the living room into the bedroom we sleep in. It's a 2 br, on the 3rd floor, so we get the awesome, nearly free heat in the winter, but we get it in the summer too. I know that the laundry rooms request that laundry only be done between 9am and 9pm, but I work 3pm, sometimes til 1am. This makes it hard to do laundry without someone walking in and turning my machines off and wasting my money... I haven't had a large energy bill, other than the first month, which somehow was almost twice what we have been paying since.

My elect bill stays around $15-$25 a month, thats not using budget billing, I can control my ac / elect usage, so I suspect someone has their AC set 50 45 degrees running all summer long.

Thanks for your review. I like that you have pros and cons to say about the facility which makes me much more likely to trust your comments than than for some people who are very satisfied or dissatisfied. I am glad to hear it is pet free complex as that is a big turn off for people who are not pet owners. I am thinking about moving to the area and I think I'll take a look at these apartments.
