Rent is very high. Service is very basic. Your lease will be dead fixed. Some buildings are VERY noisy. When you can't bear and wish to move within the property, you better upgrade, or they'll charge you the rent difference times the length of your lease - to make sure they lose no money. On top of that, you get a new lease from that point. What's more, when you finally wait to the end of the lease and move out, be ready to write another check! They'll dig every inch of your apartment - carpet, burner, wall, any imperfection will be cost you. You'll end up owing money rather than getting any of your deposit back... Can't say more about it. The memory made me sick already. It's the single bad (very bad) experience I ever had with Des Moines. Go find something else.
