A little (true) story about Wellington Apartments
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 12/24/2004
Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2004
Everything that is in other reviews about the dog poop and the grass not getting cut is true, but I am not going to write about that.
I have lived in Wellington Apartments since March 1, 2003. I first moved into a 2 bedroom with a roommate and we were so excited because we got a great deal. After 11 months of living together, things went south b/w my roommate and I, and I was desperate to move out on my own. I was not making as much money as I am now, and I was on a strict timeline. Wellington was offering great deals at the time, so I signed a 14 month lease on a one bedroom.
At first I was very excited I had my own place, but when I moved in I noticed that the apartment was filthy - the bathroom and kitchen were scummy and only the carpet had been cleaned. I talked to the office about this and they offered to give me a key to the "fitness center" without a deposit, but I would have to wait until they had a key for me - it is now almost 9 months later and I still don't have a key.
I have had numerous experiences with the office staff for different reasons. We had neighbors who would beat each other up (man and woman) and scream and holler at 3AM on a Monday morning. The office never did anything except offer to put a letter on the door. Our ceiling was rotting with a brown spot and all they did was have maintenance paint over the spot 4 times. There were also the "little" things that took a long time to take care of like our washer breaking, the dishwasher breaking, and the hot water heater going out.
Despite the lack of maintenance on the grounds and in the apartments, one of the biggest reasons to scratch Wellington off your list is due to the lack of understanding and efficiency by the office staff.
Now when I say this, you may be thinking "oh this guy didn't pay his rent and got eviction notices." That is not the case. I fell on some hard times and had to pay rent in 2 different payments - and stuck to my word on both occasions I had to do this. On December 16, 2004, I received an eviction notice on my door stating that I had 3 days to pay rent or get out. Of course I was hysterical, but I figured we could find out what happened. I left a message at the office and called first thing the next morning. I was very concerned they hadn't received my December rent and then the manager tells me that they were notifying me about MY NOVEMBER RENT. They had lost the check (I had put in their night slot) and the manager said I had 3 days to pay rent or she was taking me to court. I left work early to handle this situation. The manager REFUSED to look and see if the check had been posted somewhere else or check to see if they had overlooked it. She was not understanding or compassionate at all. I understand she has a job to do, but she also needs to understand that sending eviction notices A MONTH AND A HALF AFTER MISSING THE RENT is very emotional for people because SHE IS THREATENING TO KICK THEM OUT OF THEIR HOMES.
I finally got everything figured out with my rent, but no one is willing to admit they may have lost my check. So, when I finish out my lease and get out of that place, I will have a mark on my renter's record showing that I paid my rent late.
I have asked for my lease agreement 3 times. I still don't have it. I have left messages with the office staff for the manager to call me. She still hasn't. I have put in work orders and they are mysteriously lost.
A lot of people have gotten caught in the hype of the great deals and the new office staff that Wellington has to offer. I agree that the office staff - not management - has improved, but I am not impressed. All I have gotten from Wellington is a lot of headaches, cold nights (because the windows are awful), a smelly apartment (because AFTER I signed my lease they told me the apartment below had water problems), and a lot of stress (from losing my rent).
Before December 16, I wouldn't have highly recommended Wellington, but I would have said "it's okay" to someone who was looking for a place to live. After the level of professionalism (or lack thereof) I experienced and have experienced for 2 years, I have decided to let possible renters know that Wellington is not all it's cracked up to be. Take my advice and pay the extra rent somewhere else - you can thank me later.
