worst apartment experience ever, no lie
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 1/12/2008
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
We talked with the leasing office and were scheduled to get in after 6 on the 3rd which is why my friend (who also lives at the complex) was picking up our key. That way we could still get moved in. The leasing agent also stated they would start our lease on the 4th since we were getting in so late. Well we get there around 2:30 and find out that our place has no carpet. It is going to take 4-5 hours and then 1-2 to clean. I talked with the agent and they were under the impression that we were just going to stay in the place that night and then move in the morning. So they give us a key to the guest place for the night. I ask if we can at least go check it out tonight when they get done and they say yes after they are done.
We go to the place after 7 to check it out to see if they are done or if they are close. We get there and none of the appliances were hooked up and the toilets were in the tubs. You could tell it hadn't been painted as there were stains on the wall from a smoker that had lived there. Well the cleaning person shows up and they are upset because it is such a messed up situation that they can't clean. They call the manager and is told to just leave since they can't clean. My wife talks outside with them and the cleaning person tells her that they are upset because that is money out of their pocket as the apartment will now hire someone during the day to get it done. We stay in the guest place that night. It should also be noted that when we got into the guest suite, that the toilet in the master bathroom had not been flushed and there was urine and toilet paper sitting in it.
We go to the main office first thing the next morning when they open. The leasing agent says "we need to have a talk" and proceeds to stomp (yes, stomp) to their office. They told us our behavior the night before was unacceptable. We were dumbfounded. They said we scared the cleaning person and they were so scared that they called the cops. There was no way. Our friend was there with us and saw the whole thing. We tell them that the place wasn't ready and wasn't even going to be ready in the morning like they had said. My wife said she feels lied to and disrespected. At this point, the wonderful manager decides to interject and start getting mad at us. They tell the leasing agent to just give us our stuff back if we feel that way and get us out of there. It was terrible. We got our deposits back and told them to shred the agreement. I am still at a loss for words as to what happened. It was the worst apartment experience I have ever had. I don't want anyone else to have to go through what we went through. It was especially hard since we came from out of state and our entire life was stuck in a moving truck. So we called some apartments down the street and explained the situation and they got us into an apartment that day. They were fantastic.
