Seemed really nice at first.

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
I rented here for about two years after moving from Nebraska. The price seemed good for what you got. I was able to keep my dog and had a washer and dryer which was really nice to have. Upon arriving at the complex to pick up our keys for the apartment we checked out our new place. It was filthy. There was dirt and grim all over the place and it appeared it had not been cleaned at all. There was also no electricity. When we asked about it, they said it had been cleaned and that they don't supply electricity to any of the apartments. When the previous tenant leaves they just clean what they can without having to use any electricity. We were told that we could have another apartment, but not until the following day. Since we had already paid two months in advance on top of a deposit just to move in, we figured that we could wait one more day. After the first year I noticed the complex going downhill. First the roof to the dumpster area caught fire and as far as I know, still hasn't been fixed. Which isn't a big deal since it didn't directly affect me, it just looked bad. Then the lock on my mailbox was broken. From the look of the door on the mailbox it appeared that someone had tried to pry it open, along with several others. I phoned up the management office and was told that the postal service would have to deal with that problem. I then called the postal office and they informed me that they reported it with the management office of the complex and gave them the tools and everything else that needed to be replaced for the boxes days before. They even refused to deliver mail to those apartments until the problem was fixed. I had to end up getting a post office box because the mailbox doors were never fixed. The washer and dryer broke down several times and each time the maintenance people would have to go into another apartment in order to get the parts to fix it. Eventually we decided to leave due to the total lack of care and responsibility from the management. The company who ran the complex went bankrupt or something, so for awhile no one owed it and Knapp properties ran it. The second summer after the office caught fire, completely ruining the whole office we started receiving letters about rent being late or owing very large amounts of money. Because we had to pay so many months ahead, due to their leasing rules at the time, we were told that we didn't have to pay for two months after the first year. Later on the second year they came back to say that we did in fact have to pay for those and tried to charge us for them. The screens on all the windows fell out and were never replaced, two cars got their windows smashed out in the parking lot, management did nothing. The lights outside the apartment didn't work and the pool was never even available for use the second year (after the fires). We decided to leave for some place else because every time we would get the rent situation figured out, they would come back with another notice with a totally random amount on it, not to mention that there was new management each week. You would speak to one person on day and then a week later there would be completely new people in the office and they would have no idea who the person was that you previously spoke to. We lived a whole year there without a lease due to no management being able to keep anything straight.
