I agree with Dirty Business.
"After moving in we wrote a book on all of the problems that were wrong." The place was not painted, patches did not match and the window screens were bent and did not seal out the bugs. Apartment complex is over-run with HOBO Spiders.
The sink leaked and the faucet needed to be replaced right out of the gate.
The outgoing tenants had damaged the rugs, which although I arrived a day later than I expected they still did not have the apartment ready until a full day later.
As a result they never did a walk through inspection with me. So I did not have everything I needed to know documented. When I went to move out, the assistant manager on duty kept putting off a walkthrough inspection with me from noon until I needed to pull out in the moving van at 5 PM. So no walk through.
Guess what: Hit with a few hundred dollars in "repairs" without a valid description or discussion of what was wrong.
Just summarized under "Tennant Repairs". Curious, replacing light bulbs and such is what I was supposed to do. Still four months later have not received my deposit back or an explanation on what the charges were for.
"Moving out they will try and rape you with costs, that are not the renters responsibility, or they didn't check to see if it was an already existing problem when you moved in.(move in inspection)"
Yep, Dirty Business has it right.
"The only good thing I can say is there is a good view of the lake." But walking there is hazardous as people or the management did not pick up after their dogs.
And to landscape, they hired a couple of laborers to scrape away the grass and replace it with stones, moving the walking step stones right to the curb, which put them under car bumpers. I watched a kid try and walk on the stones falling on car hoods along the way.
To managements credit though, they have tried to get people together by hosting a few parties, one bagel fest, one Christmas competition, and a summer jam session thought up by tenants.
All were poorly attended.
The funniest thing was when they tried to raise the rent in July. Sent the assistant manager around with Helium balloons and candy with the note about the rent increase.
Argh: A balloon = inflation (helium = going up and up)
The candy' Try to make the experience a sweet one' Or trying to choke me ( a diabetic) if the rent increase was not enough!
If you fought the increase or threatened to move away, they held the rent where it was.
I had enough and left.
