Decent complex, Some really inconsiderate residents

I used to love my apartment and I still love the location. That's why I'm so horribly cranky that the building next to mine is full of asshats. Apparently it must be a smoking building, because at all hours of the night there are people standing on porches talking, screaming, giggling and coughing. Of course, my bedroom window backs up to all of this. But hey, at least the annoying 5 party guys packed into one small 2 Bedroom apartment moved out....and in moves hacking lady! She likes to sit on her porch at FIVE AM when I am trying to sleep.... COUGH...HACK...COUGH.
The staff has always been pretty cool to deal with, the handyman is the coolest. He'll do things like stop by and show us how light a pilot light, or come by and clean my air conditioner filter (I have asthma and allergies My rent was raised $50 per month after 16 months, so I don't consider that to be too bad, but I wasn't really pleased that new renters can come in and get a cheaper apartment than a long time resident. Youl'd think you want to keep the long term people happy, but I guess not.
The downside to this place continues to be - THE RESIDENTS. I think that I must have had the unfortunate luck to get the building next to the most idiotic rejects. They park in the fire lane with no regard to what the fire department would do if in fact, god forbid, there were a real emergency. They park in my assigned parking spot if there is no room in fire lane. The management is really good about getting out to those cars and posting warnings, but they're forced to wait a certain amount of time before towing, and these people know JUST how long they can leave their cars. I swear I'm gonna start throwing tacks under the wheels of these people's cars if they don't stop this stupid crap. Just a few weeks ago my boyfriend couldnt get out of his parking spot because of all the police cruisers... some couple was having a nice little domestic, OUTSIDE at 5 AM no less. Thanks for waking us up, guys. No really, we appreciate it. The new people upstairs from us are horribly loud, I really miss the nice lady who used to live there. These -------s party until 5 am some weekends.
Last but not least: PIT BULLS. Everyone here owns a dog, and everyone here lets that dog crap on the grounds. No one cleans up the crap, it is getting to be a serious problem. It was NEVER like this two years ago when I moved in. And they're all pit bulls. Why do they have to all be pit bulls'
Apartment details:
Carpeting was new when we moved in, which was a nice plus but there were a TON of fuzzies to vaccuum up, be warned. My carpet is still shedding over two years later. I don't know if they all do that, or if this is just cheap carpet.
Kitchen: Not quite as much storage as I'd like, and the appliances and counter-tops are all much older than were represented in the model, so I do feel cheated in that regard. The appliances all seem to be original, but they work well, and the kitchen is easy enough to cook in.
Porch: one of the nice things about this place is the roomy porch with storage. My cats really dig it. The brown astro-turf that covers the porches is really crapp, I am hoping maybe they might be replacing this come next summer.
Bedroom: Great, huge bedroom with awesome bay windows. Love this room. It fits my California King Mattress and then some. Walk in closet is pretty big but could use some more shelving.
Bathroom: Tub decently sized, Toilet seat broke on us about 3 times in the first year we lived here. The management gamely kept replacing it, but they always used the same model of seat. When #3 broke, we spent the $16 at Home Depot to buy our own seat, and have had no issues since. From some of the other posts mentioning broken toilet seats, I am wondering if they use cheap seats.
Laundry: While the washer and dryer are both about as old as the kitchen appliances, both work well and are nice and large, for laundering things like blankets. (Which with my allergies is essential for me.) Also there is quite enough room in there for the litter box, which we like.
Parking: While I wish that with my 2 bedroom apartment I could have two parking spots, I understand why I can't. The vast majority of apartment complexes aren't going to give you two anyways, they MAY give you the option to rent or buy another. But in my opinion, there is plenty of parking in this complex, you just need to know where to look, and not be a lazy bum. (Reference parking in the Fire Lane) I have never once in a year and a half had to park on the street. Edit: Broken down cars have become an epidemic here. At least they appear to be keeping up with towing them all every month or so, and there is an actual 24-hour towing sign in the fire lane. This means all the lazy asses who used to park in the fire lane now actually risk getting towed. Small victory for the honest folk.
Pet policy: Cats allowed with a hefty-ish deposit per pet, but at least there's no monthly extra rent, which is rare nowadays. I seem to remember that cats are the only pets allowed, which is why the whole rash of dogs here really confuses me.
