The only things that our apartment had going for us were 1) cheap at the time; rent has gone up so much that we're not sticking around, though, and 2) very friendly and capable managers. On the downside, though you will have to deal with the owners over some of the shoddier features of these apartments, they are all-in-all cheap, condescending, and apathetic. They have received complaint after complaint after complaint from the residents about the nonfunctional laundromat, but have refused to do anything about it. The call in which I spoke with her consisted of a series of suggestions and questions that included, "Clean the lint screen, put it on the right cycle, make sure you put quarters into them, make sure that they are quarters you are putting in...." I have no vendetta against them, but if you live here bear in mind that nothing will be fixed or replaced that actually needs to be. The good news there is that there is a laundromat down the street; it would just be nice if the owners would deliver what they promise.
And a final thing. Live in a basement apartment, and you WILL have a SERIOUS PROBLEM with hobo spiders. I know a resident here who lived in a basement apartment with her husband and was actually bit, and was very sick for around three months. Living in a basement apartment with my wife, I did not feel safe here at all, and they are most certainly not safe for young children.
