You want the Truth! I'll Give you 12 Years of Truth

Years at this apartment: 1992 - 2004
You want the truth; okay I'll give you the truth! My experience with Tanglewood is 12 Years. Yea' I've been renting 12 Years at Tanglewood. Why so long you ask' Well, I've got my reasons, but to suffice to say, there is a little laziness involved. So here is the scoop on this apartment complex again; with 12 Years of experience.
1.Grounds:
For the most part, the management does take pretty good care of the outward appearance of the complex. They do keep the grass cut and do plant flowers every year.
2.Parking:
They do pave the parking lot every couple of Years, however they will allow potholes to accumulate between pavings. As far as parking, it can be a problem if you work the normal 9 to 5 job; I'm usually home around 4:00 or so, so it's not a problem. Most recently (1 1/2 Years ago) they did pave the parking lots and I wound up having my 2nd car towed. I will tell you that it was my fault. They did move it elsewhere on the property, but they didn't tell me where; I had to go find it! They also didn't charge me, although they said they would. As far as snow plowing, some Years are better than others. For the past two or three Years we haven't had a lot of snow. However, when we get hammered, they have been a little slow in getting the parking areas cleaned.
3.Lighting: They will allow bulbs to burn out and not replace them for Weeks and in some cases Months.
4.Pools: Although I've never used them in 12 Years, they appear to be in okay condition.
5.Laundry Facilities: All I can say is this. They are barely acceptable. The floors are missing tiles; the machines are sometimes out of order and are older models. One dryer hasn't worked for at least one Year (I've not called to complain, then again when you're doing laundry at 4 in the morning, I don't have to compete with the other residents. A wash costs $1.50 and a dry cost .75 cents. It would be nice to see a little paint and cleaning in this room once in a while.
6.Common Areas: The management office is nice, although I stay away from there except when renewing the lease. Too bad they don't treat the common areas of the apartment buildings with the same care. To be frank, I'm not even sure if they clean them although Years ago they did once a week! They did a major remodel two Years ago when they repainted and re-carpeted everything. Unless they maintain the common areas, they will wind up doing the same remodel in one or two Years.
7.Maintenance: This is the best feature of the property. They do speak English for the most part and are "Johnny-On-The-Spot." I"ve only had two problems in 12 Years and they took care of them quickly. Definitely a shinning star for this property. I could go on in this area such as personal favors regarding maintenance but of course I can't mention this here (should management read this!) I will tell you that they do treat the maintenance poorly, pay to be specific. I've heard this from numerous Maintenance employees!
8.Resident Cliental: It depends on what building you live in IMO. The 1st building that I lived in was predominately younger folks when I was younger. The building that I live in now is predominantly families and older folks. I'm assuming that they put same type of residents in the same building, but I'm not sure' I will tell you that the residents have changed dramatically over 12 Years! I see a lot of different races versus 12 Years ago. In the past, it was predominately Caucasian; today it's all over the board. No problem in my opinion as long as I'm left alone. I will tell you in 12 Years, no one has bothered me. No loud music or loud parties into the wee hours of the Morning. However, other posters to this board might disagree.
9.Rent: All I can tell you is that I'm being raked over the Coles right now! After chatting with a couple of residents recently, I wanted to throw up. You should be able to get rent at $600-$700 a month for a one bed room apartment! I'm paying $880 which includes utilities and I must be frank, I'm now paying for water and garbage. This is recent charge that they added in the past Year or so! Then again, I could have been a little more proactive in this area for the past two Years worth of lease renewals! Suffice to say, I won't be making this mistake again! I might add that I've never ever been late with a rent payment . . . EVER in 12 Years. You might be able to get a lease at a competitive rate, but you can be assured, they will get you in the long run!
10.Security: I know of no cars being stolen; not to say that this doesn't happen. I know of no break ins; not to say that this happens. I do know that there has been at least one murder; I lived on the same floor. This was not the properties fault in anyway shape or form. I've heard of roof cave ins a couple of Years ago; not sure whose to blame' I've heard of rapes; not sure of whose to blame' I've heard of drug deals but is the property to blame' I've seen police around all the time and they will ticket for township stickers at the drop of the pin. I've heard of some strange stories but I've never seen it 1st hand. You know the saying, where there is smoke, there is fire! I will tell you that this property has lowered the bar as far as clientele that they chose to rent too! This I know from experience!
11.Actual Apartment: I live in a one bedroom apartment. It's not very big or small but average size. The heating/cooling unit stinks! The carpet and walls were in great condition when I moved in to both apartments. I will tell you that since both of them were end units, noise was not a problem! I can't speak for the middle apartments. The kitchen and bathrooms fixtures were nothing to speak of; just the basics and they work. The remodeled 2nd apartment that I moved into was no great shakes! They spray painted the walls and left overspray everywhere! They offer basic cable which is nice. Storage is appropriate within the apartment; however, storage outside of the apartment is a total joke at best. I wouldn't store your garbage their much less anything of value.
My Summary: It depends on you tastes and desires. If you want a cheap apartment (on the 1st Lease) and you can get into an appropriate building and unit; this is the place. After 12 Years, this current management team totals stinks and is a discredit to their profession. Previous management/ owners were in touch with their customers; not this team! I think they are a bunch of money greedy a**h*l*s! Granted this is a result of the lower cliental that they allow to live here! I see a lot of late rent payment notices all over the place! They have no one to blame but themselves! After all is said and done, I'm done with Tanglewood Apartments . . . .I'm gone and so is my guaranteed rent payment and my mild temermant torwards problems! I hope they rent my apartement too a bunch of pain-in-the-butts that don't give them a moments of rest!!!!!
A little about myself. I'm A SWM who works in a professional position who can afford to live anywhere I chose; including my own home. I've chosen to live here out of convenience, not financial standing. I think as of now, when my lease is over, I'm high-tailing it outta' here!
I hope these words and 12 Years of experience help you in your decision!
Kind Regards!
