don't be fooled by the sales pitch!

when i went to look at Hunter's Glen, i was greeted by a happy young lady who said she lived on the property and loved it. she spoke highly of her neighbors and the management staff. she paid a lot of attention to my son and mentioned that the clubhouse could be rented for a 1st birthday party. she was very good at selling the property, and i excitedly bought the pitch.

she did not mention that the apartments were in several levels of disrepair. when i moved in, there was mold overgrown under the bathroom floor and up the wall, only two of the burners on my stove worked, and the showerhead was so covered in limescale that they couldn't clean it. 4 months after moving in, i still have 4 electrical sockets that don't work properly, and the appliances are so ineffiecient that my gas bill is $100 per month even though those appliances are all electric.

she did not mention that Hunter's Glen has a contract with a company that tows cars, multiple cars, EVERY NIGHT!

the first time my car was towed was 24 days after i moved in.

the second time (my mother's car) was two months later. in this case, we were on vacation and they towed her car from the visitor's area because it had sat in the same spot for "too long". we tried to tell the property manager and the towing company that we had been on vacation for 12 days. the property manager said that leaving our car there was considered "using the lot for storage". the towing company said that they were not responsible for the fees and that the total would be $480.00.

two of my friends have been towed from the lot while they were visiting (these were not overnight visits--one car was taken at 8pm while we were eating dinner).

The company is permitted to tow any "unauthorized" car between 7pm and 7am. "unauthorized" could mean that you're taking up two spaces, that your car does not appear to be in working order, or that it's been sitting in the same place for too long. it could also mean that your parking permit is not displayed properly, or that the towing company doesn't recognize that your car belongs in the lot.
your friends are only permitted to park in designated "Visitor Parking" areas. These areas are only designated by a 12-inch square sign that is invisible at night.

and finally, she failed to mention that the police actually patrol the complex. officers are actually called to the property about once per week (or maybe once in 10 days). many residents mind their own business, but none are friendly and the ones that cause trouble do it often. things have been stolen from our first floor patio and more than once someone has asked me or my mother for money (can i borrow a dollar for the bus') or cigarettes.

i have asked to be released from my lease several times because of how unsafe i feel and because of the towing situation. i was told that i could break my lease if i paid almost $3000 in fees and that it would be reported to all of the major credit companies and to a leasing database. The property manager and the regional manager have both been condescending and unhelpful.

overall, the place looks good, but it's a real pain.

I am sorry that you have had such a bad experience with Hunter's Glen - it is very interesting for me to see the different reviews as my time here (3 years) has been great! I live towards to back of the building near the little pond, it's very quiet and I have no problems with anyone - I like the fact that the police patrol the area, it honestly makes me feel safer. Where my appliances may be a little older - they are always very quick to repair anything and they even gave me a brand new fridge when mine was dying. I have never had my car towed and none of guests have had their car towed either - they always park in visitor parking. Again I am sorry that your experience has been so different than mine. I hope you find a place that treats you better.

I had all the same problems when i was living there, the reason for the police is bc of drive by shooting that were happening and the prositution services that were out of a apt. honestly i cant believe they havent improved any the mold was a huge problem for us and in the summer bugs and spiders like crazy. living on the 1st floor was the scariest for me i had security bars on the door and windows ppl would always get so close to my patio and windows it scared me. i had the same problem with breaking the lease, they sure rack up the charges so they can make there money!!

I JUST MOVE THERE AND I WISH I MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE. DONT BE LATE ON YOUR RENT BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY LATE FEES PLUS LAWYERS FEES WHICH THEY DONT TELL YOU AND IT IS NOT ON THE LEASE.
