Where to begin...
The pool was very rarely open last summer. The "workout facility" closes at 6, so for those of you who work, you will never be able to use it. Essentially, you are paying for amenities that are never available to you.
Secondly, the management has changed and they are not any better than the previous. They are extremely rude and passive aggressive. Upon signing the lease, management created and got away with a giant scam. They were running a special where you got the first month and a half of rent free if you signed a 13-month lease. They "fudged" the numbers on the lease to actually make it a 14-month lease even though all of the paperwork said it should have been a 13-month lease. Double check the math on EVERYTHING you sign because they will try to get you if you seem honest. Put absolutely no trust in them. When we realized they had screwed up the dates on the lease, we brought it to their attention and they did nothing for us. First they said since it was their mistake, they would let us move out after the appropriate 13 months. Then later they decided that since our first month was free, they weren't going to let us move out. EVEN THOUGH THE SPECIAL WAS FOR 13 MONTHS NOT 14. Also, I moved in with my boyfriend after he lived there for a while. I paid to be put on the lease, filled out all the paperwork, and when I called to make a complaint they told me I was never put on the lease. They took my $40 application fee and as far as I know, they pocketed it.
We took it for granted that management was honest and we got screwed. As young/new renters we were horribly taken advantage of. I suppose this can be considered a huge lesson on our part, but it can also be taken as this management company operates on dishonesty and on taking advantage of their residents. Trust no one you rent from here. We have had friends who have moved out of this place and have claimed to get almost nothing of their security deposit back. TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES upon moving in and moving out.
Another thing, we have overheard many domestic disturbances and I think a lot of the people that live here are unstable. 3 weeks ago a person living (or visiting) someone next door to us was arrested at gunpoint. 6 police cars were present and what appeared to be some kind of under-cover drug bust. I cannot be sure of this, but this is how it appeared. I keep checking the police reports and will update this review if I ever hear for sure what went down on March 4th around 10pm at Lorlyn.
Also, we had a serious mold problem in the winter due to extremely bad windows. Water got in, froze, melted, and created mold. We were constantly bleaching our windows.
This place is #1) run by people who don't care about keeping their tenants happy and are essentially out to take advantage of you #2) Unsafe #3) a rip-off given all the amenities you are paying for but are unable to use #4) is not well-kept or updated at all.
If you decide to live here, that (of course) is your choice. I am just a single person who has had a horrible experience at Lorlyn of Batavia. If you decide to live here though, I'm just warning you to please be EXTREMELY cautious. You are going to be ripped-off in some form. Check and double check all of your paper work, bring a calculator and have a lawyer look over all of the paperwork.

I am not surprised by any of this. I reported them to DHS and they were investigated and they fudged on my paper work so they would not found in violation. So I am not surprised by anything.

I had a problem with this place also, I was not going to renew my lease theis year but I did because it was to cold to move when my lease was up. I do not care how the weather will be next year, even if its 10 below 0. I will not live here. Also, if you are not Mexican be sure you will not be treated fairly, they only look out for themselves. I had a problem w/ my central air last summer, it took me writing a letter to get it fixed and a copy of the website listing this as an amenity. If my air condition was not fixed I could have sued them for false advertisement. As for the windows and other features in the apartments they are original from the time this place was built around the 70's or early 80's, this is from a trained Interior Designer w/ a Bachalors Degree. I have to cover my windows w/ plastic in order to keep my electric bill down because they so drafty in the winter time. upon moving out and going throught the walk though, make sure you get a copy of everything that is right or wrong upon inspecting and make sure you sign it and keep a copy w/ your sigature. thats how you get your security deposit back in case you have to take them to court they cannot deny you that because it is illegal. so just in case they try to falsify your signature with another statement, they would really be in trouble and make sure you take pictures w/ dates, it says a thousand words. In december I received a letter stating I could take off $4.50 off March rent. Then they tried to change it and said it was about $3.10 less because they got permission to do that and that happened in December so that letter did not matter. As far as I know I never received any letter any change of thing and by law since they sent me the letter I still took $4.50 off. When you are dealing with contracts and offering things and put it in writing you have to stick to it and not all of sudden change something without that customer or clients knowledge. They think people are dumb. For cnwash1, you should have kept all your paper work they give you even if its good or bad and take pictures w/ dates. I watch a lot of court TV when I can and the judge ALWAYS AND ALWAYS ASK FOR PROOF!!!!! The office has copies of everything they send you, you need to do the same. And if I can recall I came home to the same thing about the police in my building. I was scared to come into the building because I though I was walking into a hostage situation or standoff. There are some thieves in the complex, someone took my good wiperblades off of my truck and put some old wornout ones that were torn apart which I had to pay for to replace. If I catch someone tampering with my truck again I will be sure to try and bust their brains out and then call the police.
They claim on their webpage to have new oak kithen cabinets my kitchen cabinets are laminated (which means the inside is made of pressed wood particles and the out side is glued on plastic material made to resemble wood) this is considered low cost building material, ceramic wall tile I have no tile on my walls, new tub/ shower area that syle went out in the 70's and that color was discontinued in the 70's. My sink is so old in the bathroom, its fading and the faucet is so old that it is so tarnished that I CANNOT get it to shine no matter how many cleaning products I use to try and get it to shine and the caulking is so messed up it looks terrible. Like I said at first false advertising. Lets see if we can have a pool this season if not false advertising. Oh yeah, I tried to call them one time and it was about 10 minutes before 6:00PM and nobody answered the phone. It was a good thing that it was not an emergency and I only wanted to ask a question.
