Mixed Feelings

First off, I agree with most of the things that the previous writer said about Wilshire Towers. Wilshire was not my original choice as far as where I wanted to move in the area. I had wanted to move into Remington Place in Schaumburg but after reading some of the reviews for that complex, maybe it wasn't such a bad thing that there were no 1 beds available at the time.

Pros at Wislhire: heat and water included in the rent, also gas for the stove. electric only cost me (1 person) about $14-18 a month. cable tv worked for some reason in my apartment from Memorial Day 2005 until my move out early this year (not sure if this is a new addition for tenants or if it was a screw up by Comcast, I wasn't going to say anything either way). location along Army Trial is close to shopping (Dominick's and Jewel are both within about 1/2 mile and there is a SuperTarget, Wal Mart and Stratford Square Mall about 2 miles away along with lots of other shops). a pool open from Mem. Day to a week or two after Labor Day although it was not kept heated the best all the time.

Cons at Wilshire: the geese were my greatest problem there. Their droppings are just about everywhere along the back oval road in between the buildings and in the grassy areas from the tennis courts to the playground area. they are quite noisy at times during the day and especially around sunrise/sunset. no fitness center which I kind of missed for the 2 years I was there. There is a Bally's that is just across the street though.

Maintainence people were good, never had a problem with getting something fixed. The grounds were kept relatively good. Mixed feelings on the office staff. Paola is very nice. Didn't have much contact with the property manager Debbie but she greeted me with a smile whenever I passed her. I guess the cold shoulder could be given by Erin at times for whatever reason. I kept to myself most of the time so I did not have a bad run in with her in my own experience. I never had a problem with any crime around the area whether it was in my apartment or to my vehicle there. It can be dark at times in the parking lot and especially out along the back road at night. I never went out back at night because of this.

Overall this was not the best place I have ever lived in but certainly not the worst. I don't know if I had the choice again that I would pick Wilshire to live in because there are newer places to live at if you can afford it but as of Feb 2006, I think it is an okay place to live if you want a quiet apartment close to shopping.
