I would recommend Brookside. First of all, it's not a crap hole like most of the apartments in Carbondale. My rent was $320 per month, all utilities included. The only issue I had with parking was: if you are having guests at your apartment to spend then night, you had to go in and get a pass for them to park at Brookside; the passes cost $1 per night. If you don't get them a pass, they will get towed; Brookside tows every night, 365. Many college students live at Brookside. There were occasional parties above us and around us, but overall the noise was low. Grass and landscaping aren't spectacular but looks solid. As for security: you are really on your own. I lived at Brookside for a year and a half. Three different apartments were broken into while I lived there; however, Carbondale is not particularly noted for good public safety. The apartments are dated, but everything worked properly. I only had a couple things that needed to be fixed; both times the problem was fixed within 24 hours. The managers were very nice and friendly. Some of the office assistants though were a little bitchy, but nothing you couldn't tolerate for a couple minutes while you were in there picking up you package. Overall, it is better than many other apartment complexes is Carbondale.
