I agree. There are police here all the time, and several times they were called because residents heard gunshots. I don't even go from my apartment to my car without carrying a concealed weapon. This person is not exaggerating, this place made it on national news for being one of the most quickly run down apartment complexes, failing to conduct background checks, and allowing class B people to live here.

Okay, I am not happy with this apartment complex but since when did 88 West make national news??? If you could provide some evidence or a link to this I would gladly support this review, but I have never heard a gunshot nor do I feel the need to carry a concealed weapon. Please, do everyone a favor who's looking for an honest review, and leave the emotion at the door. I'm not happy with 88 West either, but to leave a comment like this is just wrong.

I agree with Reco above. I have not been at all pleased with the facilities or staff at 88, but I have no idea what you are talking about, and I work at the police department. The only incident of "gunshots" that I recall was from an idiot lighting off firecrackers in the parking lot, and some other idiot mistaking it for gunshots. By making a fake or exaggerated claim about the complex, you are negating the true complaints by other residents.

AGREED with the 11/26 posting. I lived at 88 west last year, the first year they opened. Within 2 weeks of living there my sliding glass door was shattered by some ghetto -------. I know for a face race wars went on, because people were evicted for it. As for the robberies... yeah, AGAIN, 8 months later, my apartment was broken into and our tv got stolen. One night I was woken up at 4 am on a weeknight to a vicious fight going on in the parking lot. The screams I heard from that poor kid still stick in my head. I decided not to resign my lease, but my friend unfortunately did and was replaced with two theives that stole my credit card out of my wallet. They spent $1000 plus dollars and later charged with a felony and identity fraud. 88 West is ghetto and there really have been 2 shootings in a weeks time. It is not a safe place. DO NOT RENT THERE!!

OMG! To the person above me! I am so sorry you had that experience! I was the one who posted the comment on 11/26. There is no reason why anyone should post good comments about this place...I had two roommates resign and got put with two gangbangers from Chicago who had a total of 6 guns in the apartment. One hallway down, a person got their door kicked in and were robbed at gunpoint with the gun in their mouth. They decided to make things safer for this guy...and by that...they assigned him to MY apartment. The guy hated white people and decided to never talk to us. But yet, he would use all of our stuff, food, and plates. He never did any cleaning and he smoked blunts with random black people in our apartment. I think the place needs to be bulldozed. It's becoming the projects of champaign.

I currently live at 88 west and it is nice to look at but is definitely NOT a safe place to live! My next door neighbor was shot at a few weeks ago, and I know was a real shooting because I had to be interviewed several times by police officers AND saw the bullet holes in the walls. Every day that I sit in my apartment all I can do is pray that a bullet is not going to come into my apartment! Don't let the amenities fool you, this is NO place to live!
