When I first moved here, I was optimistic and excited to live at a nice complex with many amenities at an affordable price. However, after a semester, I would do anything to get out of here.
This complex has been taken over by new management, but it has done little to help. Aside from the violence and gang presence, the perks offered by the 88 West are nearly all lies. The bus service to campus is terrible. The bus does not come every half hour. The gym is empty, because people are scared that they will be beaten. The staff is unfriendly towards residents. There are not any social events as promised.
The demographics of this apartment complex lead to many if not all of the problems. Now that we have "security guards" that prevent unwanted guests from entering the parking lots, some of the groups have disappeared. However, their "lists" are not enforced against all guests, only those whose skin matches the color of the sky when the guards are present. This is said from multiple personal experiences. My friends of color even speak poorly of the people that live here. The residents must not be students of any kind, and are simply here to cause trouble in their free time.
Do not allow any friends or family to reside at 88 West. They will regret it.

88-west has just recently bought their own BRAND NEW personal shuttle bus!!! It goes to Parkland AND U of I! It is great and it is on time EVERTYIME!!! I love it! The staff are great people and have always treated me with great respect anytime I needed something!!!!! The gym gets used everyday and NOONE has ever been beaten in it!! The security has improved soooo much!!! I would not still be living here if I did not think it was safe!!! I love it here and you're missing out!!!

A. You work for 88 West B. As proof of the poor quality of management, they have not notified tenants that the bus is available for use by providing any type of schedule. Additionally, 4 days ago, when asked, the staff said the bus had no schedule. C. The office staff are not respectful. D. The security is awful. Our apartment door was being broken down. The police arrived, scared away the kids, took a report, and left. The security staff came half an hour later, asking if there was a problem. How can you feel safe?
