My only regret about the University of Illinois... agreeing to sign a lease with Bankier Apartments. I have lost count of the number of problems I have had with them. They are liars from the start. Every agent I spoke to would give us different information about places and availability. Literally we spoke to them over to phone saying with wanted apartment X, they faxed us the lease, we immediately signed it and faxed it back just to get a call saying "Oh yea we just leased that apartment. Find a different one." They just don't give a damn about their tenants. Any issues I had during my lease with them was either ignored or they chose a solution that created 3 problems for ME.
Not to mention how ill-managed their tenants are. I am not even going to mention how disgusted the condition of the apartment was when I moved in. I am talking about how horrible my neighbors were. There were 2 apartments in the same hallway as ours who had parties every night of every weekend and commonly throughout the weeknights. So you'd be stuck listening to blaring music starting as early as 5pm until 2-3 in the morning. It was miserable and Bankier basically said "so what?" to the complaint. We called the cops from time to time but sometimes that could take a couple hours before an officer showed up and that only lulled music temporarily and did nothing to quite the music the next night. Bankier clearly did not take any action to resolve the ongoing problem.
Also, the walls are so thin you can hear your neighbors conversations.
It states in the lease that tenants cannot leave garbage outside their apartments or else there will be a fine... there are mounds of garbage bags and nasty old pizza boxes outside just about everyone's door. Now I get why the bugs here are the size of golf balls.
I have truthfully lost track of the number of times that the security door has been broken and therefore left completely open for weeks at a time. So much for a secure building.
Our apartment isn't too big but the ceilings are high. In the fall when we just used air conditioning the electric bill was around $50 a month. In the winter, with the heat on auto at about 65-68 degrees, the bill was always between $125-$150. So much for sufficient insulation.
I would NEVER sign with them again.
