802 W. Green apartments - horrible!

When we moved into our apartment, nothing at all was clean. There were boards all over, the oven was a complete mess, and the carpet was so disgusting that after walking barefoot on it for a few hours, the bottom of your feet was completely black. We had to rent a shampooer ourselves and shampoo the carpet about 4 times to clean it enough to be livable.
Our kitchen table only had 3 legs, and our bathroom light did not work. We tried to contact them about the bathroom light, because we had to bring a floor lamp into our (tiny) bathroom to be able to see, and it reset the breaker whenever we turned it on. It took them about 3 phone calls and over a month to fix that.
In November, a man came supposedly to "look at our heater" or so he said. We left, and when we came back our heat (which we had previously had no problems with) would not turn on. It was about 40 degrees outside, and when we called Barr's emergency line, they sent someone over with an ancient space heater that hardly worked. The next day, we called to find out what was wrong with our heat, and nobody knew anything. They promised they would send someone out to fix it, but almost a week went by and nobody came. We called several times, each time getting the same answer. "We don't know what's wrong, only the maintenance manager knows what is wrong and he is out of the office right now. We can bring over more space heaters if you want." Finally, my roommate saw some maintenance men outside our apartment smoking one day, and he asked them if they knew anything about our heat. They said that our heater had been "condemned" by the city, which meant that they had to shut it off because it was not safe. Nobody had told us this, or even left a note, they just turned it off. Finally, a week later, somebody came and installed a new one.
Then, in winter, our water heater would only be hot for about 4 minutes in the shower, and then it would turn cold. We called maitenance, and they sent someone to look at it. He said he would order us a new one, and that it would be in by the next week. Well, that was 3 months ago. Nobody ever came, and we were so fed up with calling them and getting no help that we gave up.
All in all, I would tell everybody I know to never rent from Barr and to tell their friends the same. I wouldn't wish these landlords on my worst enemies! What an overpriced crap-hole of a place!

YES!!!!!! I agree! Same type of issues at 1107 Euclid St. They truly are slumlords. I have a shower where the wall is literally rotting away and have called about is since AUGUST when I first moved in. It's now June of the following year and NOTHING!! I also had a leak in my shower where someone's sewage water from the apartment above mine was dripping down into my shower! I called immediately and EVERYDAY for 2 weeks until they even came to LOOK at the problem. It was another 2 weeks to fix so I had use a friend's apartment to shower for a full month.... Also, part of the roof flew off from the wind and hit my car in the parking lot. No one has yet to come out and fix it and then when my grandmother passed one weekend and I turned my rent in ONE day late (which I have always been on time for) they had the audacity to charge me a 20 dollar late fee....Riiiiiight. I'll pay that when they fix the damage on my car. I also had the disgusting suprose of having a dirty apartment when I moved in. There was so much hair in the shower drain that it acted like a plug. Not to mention I don't have a single set of blinds that work--all of my windows are covered with towels or blankets so people don't see me change... I called Barr on this too, in AUGUST! They told me they were really busy with everyone moving in that they would get to it in a few weeks. It's June...No blinds. Finally, to those who aren't convinced Barr is BAD, they make you sign a lease with no privacy clause--they can come into your apartment whenever they want no matter once. Once they came into show my apartment when I was there and the kid asked me what I thought. You should have seen the womans face when I told the kid truth about Barr. Needless to say, they have always made sure I wasn't around to show the place...
