The maintenance staff of Barr Real Estate is by far one of the best I have come across. They are always prompt and willing to help with any situation you might have.
Last year I was locked out of my apartment because I twisted my key the wrong way and it jammed. Emergency maintenance was prompt and very helpful in replacing my lock. I was very satisfied with the response time because it was cold out and I didn't have to wait long at all to get into my unit. Another time my AC unit was broken because the filter had frozen to the coils because I had it on all the time. Maintenance was quick to respond and installed a new unit that worked great. In the winter there were electricians working in my apartment and I was notified a week in advance. When they were in my crawl space they found that my water heater was leaking. Although the leak was very minor, BARR was quick to replace the water heater to avoid any water damage to the wood frame and base board. When the Plumbing contractor who replaced the water heater forgot the light the pilot lights a maintenance worker arrived quickly and showed me where all the pilot lights were and lit them. During winter break my stupid neighbor downstairs turned his heat all the way off and the pipes froze. Once again Barr maintenance was quick to respond and came with heat guns to thaw out my pipes and fixed the damage that had happen to my neighbors apartment because he turned his heat off. As a side note Barr did send out a notice that said to leave the heat on at a low setting to avoid pipes freezing. Guess my neighbor didn't learn how to read prior to coming to a university. Also during the frozen pipe incident they came with insulation strips and weather sealed my door because all doors were replaced over break and the contractor installed the door with a gap that was too large. The insulation was temporary and the door was later fixed.
Extensive renovations have been done to my building at 1107 Euclid. New windows, doors, and electrical wiring have all been done to all units while I was hear last year. All work was done by contractors and I was notified in advance to their presence.
This year I had to move to a new unit because my old one was rented out because the grad school took forever to send out notifications of acceptance. The unit I am renting in right above my old one. The prior tenant had a cat that had peed all over the carpet and torn it up. In my lease I asked to have it replaced. I didn't read the part where it said they would replace it within 30 days of least start date. So when I moved in I was surprised to see the old carpet. I went to the office and talked to Joe Camfield (Maintenance Supervisor) about the situation. Normally I wouldn't care and just wait the 30 days but I am allergic to cats and it would have been a horrible 30 days living in there with the cat dander all over. Joe was quickly got on the phone and got me a new carpet installed within a matter of 3 hours or so. This is amazing considering how busy they are at the beginning of the year cleaning out all the units and doing repairs. Joe gave me his card and said I could contact him if I needed anything else. He even came by the next day to follow up on how the move in went. Everything is great and I love my new apartment more than my last.
Overall I have had a very good experience with Barr. My only concern is with the contractors who leave a mess and don't clean it up when they are done working. It gets annoying when you come home and there are wire pieces all over the floor. With that said, I would recommend (and have done so) Barr to my friends and I plan to be a tenant in this unit again next year.

That is because I contacted the city after they did nothing for four months about replacing my non-existing windows in that building. They left me without windows through several below freezing days. The only reason any of those renovations were performed is because they were threatened with legal actions by the city. Yeah barr is quick to help with anything that doesn't cost them lots of money like a lock out, or a new paint coat her or there, but with anything major they are slum lords and they will let it go as far as they can.
