Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2003
I lived at Country Fair for 2 1/2 years. The maintenance was pretty good, I had an air conditioner replaced in a matter of hours.
The basement apartments do have the water backup problem, and the top floors get really hot in the summer as my neighbors know.
The rented furniture is pretty crummy and the extra money per month can be spent on some decent used furniture or even new furniture. I wish I would have done that.
Parking was great, a definite change from campus. I had to be aware of when my neighbors were showering and not go to at the same time (of course I could hear their showers)- it could mean a very cold shower.
I chose to live there though I would probably leave Champaign during my lease.
They let you pay $275 and supposedly find someone to take the lease. This is the only place around that ll let you do that (that I could find anyway). They took my entire deposit and still didn't find anyone to live there for several months. So, after I had been out of state, I was still paying for an empty apartment.
A friend of mine was assaulted in the parking lot. The policeman basically told me it happens a lot in that area and he wouldn't recommend living on that side of town. I wish I would have known that.
