It isn't worth it.

I don't normally write these reviews, but I made an account just to write a review about how terrible Ramshaw is...
Whatever great deal you think you're getting on your rent, it isn't worth living in one of these apartments. I decided to come to school at uiuc really late in the game, so I was apartment hunting in july. Plus, since I was out of town, I only had one day to find a place. There wasn't much available. If you are reading this and you DO have a choice, avoid Ramshaw if at all possible.
I was promised that several repairs would be made on the apartment before I moved in. Clearly I should have gotten those promises in writing, because it never happened. 3 days after I moved in, I got a phone call saying we owed 600$ for a security deposit that I had already paid. They continued to harass me until I went to the office and showed the receipt for the payment. Then, "oh, sorry" was about the only response I got.
The worst experience I have had, by far, was in January. I came home one night to find 4 inches of standing water in my apartment. The water was gushing in from a drain outside the door. When the maintenance people came in to fix the problem, they told me that this exact thing had happened a few years ago, and that the flood was because of a broken sump pump (the also told me the carpet hadn't been replaced after the last time and that it should have been). The flood cause over 2000$ in damages, and the landlord is still refusing to pay, saying that he isn't liable. Now if this had been caused by a flash flood, he would be right, but damage due to the landlords neglect is a different matter. Meanwhile, Ramshaw has been epically unhelpful. They wouldn't return any of my phone calls or emails until I got a lawyer involved. However, when they want to show my apartment or need something from me they manage to get in contact immediately.
I'm sure this isn't the end of my battles with them. The flood caused plenty or damage and mess that I'm sure they'll try to take out of my security deposit.
As I said earlier, stay away from this company if at all possible. They're dishonest and difficult to deal with.
