No Fitness Ctr, Out of the way

Here's my impression of the place after a brief showing by a leasing dude.

The apartment he showed me faced a construction site.

When I mentioned this to him, rather than steering me to an apartment not facing construction, he merely retorted with "there's construction everywhere in Chicago." Thanks for the update genius!

Apart from the management being refreshinginly unafraid to show their true jerk-selves even before signing the lease, the apartments themselves stink.

Everything looked 1970's old.

The bathrooms were deplorable and the kitchens were studded with old cabinetry and dishwashers.

WORKOUT FACILITY IS A JOKE! When the leasing jerk took me down there all I saw were few exercise bikes, and some treadmills in a poorly lit room.

NO FREE WEIGHTS.

Pardon me, there are free weights sufficient to give you a workout if you happen to be 80 and 2.5lbs curls are a challenge.

LAUDRY FACILITY SUCKS.

The rooms have limited hours of use and they looked pretty banged up.

The hallways themseleves were narrow, but not dirty.

It seemed like a quite place to live because more than half the tenants look like they're on life-support.

I won't rent out of this dump for two reasons: the fitness ctr is a joke and the location is in the middle of no where.

They're far from the redline, and getting onto Lake Shore Drive from their address will be MAJOR HEADACHE because you'll have to navigate through a labrynth of one-ways.

I'm sorry sir, but I think you may be confusing 420 East Ohio with another building. I looked at an apartment there and was quite impressed with what the building had to offer. My "leasing jerk" was a very nice and knowledgeable man named Jeff who happily showed me everything they had to offer including modern amenities, clean apartments, and friendly surroundings. If you check the overall approval rating of 420 East Ohio (over 86%), I think you'll find your opinion is in the minority. And if you consult a dictionary, you might also learn how to spell.

I agree with jvecchio. I think lawyer555 must be thinking of another building. I'm about to start an MD/MBA at Northwestern and have been looking at a ton of places the last few days. 420 E. Ohio left a very positive impression on me. The staff and leasing people were friendly. The leasing agent was very patient - she waited a super long time for me while I took a second look at an apartment during a second visit to the building. Anyway, I still haven't decided where I'm going to live, but 420 E. Ohio is very high on the list, if not the top.

There is no such word as "refreshinginly" and there is no space in "no where." If you are a lawyer, what law school did you attend? It must be pretty easy to get in.

I think jvecchio works for 420. Nice try. Next time, just do a better job showing your apartments and taking care of your residents. You shouldn't have to waste your time posting fake messages.

in response to lawyer 555--this is a highly inappropriate review of 420. I have actually lived here 10 years due to its location, cleanliness, maintenance, support staff and management. this sounds like a kid right out of school as anyone still using the term "dude" has not reached a professional level.
Location--has own beach across the street, navy pier across the street, the street happens to be Laske Shore Drive)Michigan ave 4blocks away, millenium park--10 minute walk, 34 movie theatres, world reknown hospital and restaurants, grocery stores and fitness complexes within 2 blocks.

the buidling is mostly young professional as most students cant afford to live here unless the parents are paying.

It s sounds like he was shown the room off the pool that has a couple of treadmills and bikes versus the workout facility on the 2nd floor which has everything including FREE Weights which have always been there for as long as I can remember.

New buildings in Chicago dont separate the kitchen from the living room making you have to keep it spotless all the timme. At 420 the kitchen is actually its own room and all apts except for studios have theri own washer and dryer. Mr. lawyer obviously was looking at the lowest priced studios in the building which are accomondated by a laundry room that is not in a basement but off the outdoor patio and pool.

Whatever you do, dont use this person as an attorney as he isnt the least bit observant nor has the ability to gather facts.

I have to disagree too, while my "leasing jerk" is not longer there, I have been dealing with the new leasing consultant Eric who is very intune with what is going on in the building and keeps residents very happy! Also lawyer555 where do you get off calling him a leasing jerk? I am sure he has been just as educated as you! If you didn't like the apartment, don't lease...but stop crying about it.

I am very much looking forward to moving out of here. Literally, the only thing you pay for is a view - if you're lucky enough to have an east-facing apartment. Otherwise, I can't understand why anyone would stay here. I'm waiting for the new apartments across the street to open. 420 E. Ohio has the most rude office staff. Brook was previously the property manager and she made it a really friendly environment to live. Now that she's gone, I don't even know who the new guy is...J.R. or something. Have never seen him. He lets his assistant, Lauren, take charge and everyone - tenants and staff do everything to avoid her. Unfortunately, she lives in the building. When you see her, it's like running into the mean principal of your grade school....everyone runs. We pay her salary! The building itself is very dated and run down. The laundry room, if you are lucky, has about half the washers/dryers working. Oh, but there are no signs on the broken machines so you end up losing money until you find ones(s) that work. The elevators are painful. For some reason, Lauren doesn't know how to reserve properly when people move in/out so many times the entire building of 40 floors has ONE elevator working. It's not unusual that I have had to wait 10-15 minutes to squeeze onto one that wasn't full. My heat only worked about 40% of the time last winter. So, if the engineers couldn't get it working, I slept with multi-layers of quilts. I have bugs in my kitchen and others I've talked to have them, too. They aren't roaches or ants but little black bugs that come and go with the season. Disgusting nonetheless. Someone I know turned in his sheet for a storage locker but they threw his stuff out anyway becuse of poor record keeping when they were doing their "audit." Anyway, my point is, there's a ton of clean-up, updating, cleaning house of awful staff that needs to be done in order to keep people here - especially with all the deals on new places all over the neighborhood.
