After conducting an extensive apartment search in the neighborhood, I feel obligated to apprise potential renters of the nightmare that this building truly is. The apartments look comparable to other units in the area; many are larger and much nicer than the studios I've recently viewed. But beware, and do not rent on looks alone. Beal Properties is, without a doubt, the rudest and most incompetent management company in the city and the buidling is unequivocally the loudest complex I've ever lived in.
Let's begin the diatribe. As other reviewers have noted, the tenants here are terrible. Many loudly slam their doors throughout the night, allow their dogs to bark no matter the time, loudly gab on cell phones in the halls, and use the mailroom floor as their personal garbage can. And returning to the topic of terrible pets, lazy buidling tenants allow their dogs to urinate and deficate mere inches from the back door. Watch out. On balmy August afternoons, expect the potent combination of rotting garbage and animal feces.
As for the building itself, the elevators are consistently broken, there are often large insects in the laundry room, and I've seen varieties of bugs I never knew existed in my decaying bathroom. And while mentioning the laundry, I feel I should note that the facilities contain only four washers and four dryers for a building of more than 100 tenants.
Now, onto Beal. If I could desribe this management company in one, capitalized word, it would be DISHONEST. Examples of their unscrupulous behavior are many, but I'll mention only a few. After being told I could temporarily park in the alcove behind the building, they had my car towed. Another Beal renter and family member had an oven that was leaking gas and the building engineer repeatedly lied for several weeks, telling him that she had already contacted managment. She hadn't, of course. I wish you the best of luck in actually speaking with someone in the management office. They rarely answer phone calls and are even less likely to return them. Oh, and I waited for two hours to pick up apartment keys.
