When looking at this place for the first time, and considering the price, it seems like a bargain. The honeymoon ends pretty fast.
First of all, it took them 3 years to replace an elevator that broke down literally every day (pretty nice when you are on the 12th floor). The fixtures in the apartment are so outdated, it is no wonder that you commonly get yellow and brown water out of all the faucets. The management says "just let the water run for 10 minutes or so and it will clear up".
If you don't like cockroaches, don't move here. They are actually residents here- no surprise conisdering management boasts their extermination policy from day 1- oh and if they tell you he is comming on the thrid Friday of the month' Ask for proof.
If you happen to have plumbing issues (obviously not a rare occurence) don't expect any compensation what-so-ever. I had pipes burst in the bathroom on a Saturday night while I was in the shower. The 24/7 maintenance guy was nowhere to be found and the doorman said "it wasn't his problem". The Fire Department was the only one to help. After that I had no running water in my bathroom for close to 24 hours and to top it off, the doorman wouldn't let me use a key to use the employee bathrooms in the lobby! Good thing I had a car and a McDonalds 4 blocks away.
Oh- whats about the 3 fridges I went through in 4 years' Can we say "BUY NEW ONES''" And whatever happened to Wilmette reimbursing me for the lost food each time.... hmmm must be jsut another story I got out of the leasing office.
The two in the leasing office. All I have to say is "Dumb and Dumberer"- one feeds off the other, and no one can ever really take care of an issue. Watch out- they like to put their feet up on the desk- so if you smell something funny, that may be it. Hey- who's up for a good story'
Safety- well if you like people hanging out in the underground garage all night "checking out the cars", the doormen letting in anyone and everyone, kids hanging out in the back corners of the hallways at night, loud shouting and pounding comming from other windows and random people comming up to you at night in the stairwell then you are all set.
Laundry is a joke. 8 washers and dryers for nearly 300 apartments. Also- if you have colored items and you can get one of these when they are not broken, don't expect them to come out the same color as when you put them in.
As far as the Management Company- HA. How many 3 day notcies did I get because the accounting person for my building applied my rent to other accounts' I guess reading isn't a pre-requisite to work for Wilmette. I can guarentee it was at least 6 times in 4 years. And getting a security deposit returned' Try standing on your head and holding your breath because the new "replacement" in the accounting department actually scored LOWER on her IQ test.
But hey- what do you want for these prices'

On or about 10/11/2006, I completed and returned an application for an apartment at 4423 N Sheridan Rd., Apt 1002, Chicago, IL. 60640. Along with the application, I mailed Wilmette Real Estate two money orders: One for an application fee of 40.00 and the other for a 350.00 rental deposit. I was told the apartment would be ready on 11/1/2006.
