My partner and I have been living in one of Lee Street's buildings for about a year now, and are happy to say that we are not renewing our lease. The building is falling apart - there are huge foundation cracks throughout the building, including the lobby (if you can even call it that), the courtyard sidewalk, the walls, the ceilings, and near the dungeon-like laundry room / back entry. The doors have probably never been replaced, and are often very difficult to open and close (sometimes you literally have to kick the door open because it sticks). Our own door to the apartment had a giant crack on the top, allowing us to see the hallway / others to see into our apartment - when we asked the maintenance workers to fix the door, their solution was simply to take a piece of plastic and first tape it on the door. When that fell down, they returned and nailed the black plastic above the door to create an illusion of safety/privacy - I'm sure it's a fire hazard. Our hardwood floors clearly have never been redone, as there are several sharp nails that stick up from the floor boards in both the bedroom and living room. I can't tell you how many socks we have ruined, and more importantly, how many times I have hurt my feet while accidently stepping on those sharp nails. The kitchen is absolutely disgusting - we have two different out-dated cabinet sets with faulty drawers, a screen door that doesn't even cover the entire door frame, an insufficient number of outlets, and ancient appliances. Sometimes I walk into the apartment and swear that I can smell gas from the stove, even though the stove is clearly off. Our bathroom is pretty nasty, too, and obviously hasn't been updated in quite some time. The hinges on the toilet seat are very weak, there are several giant cracks on our pedestal sink, and nasty stains in the bathtub that won't even come out with bleach. We only have ONE CLOSET in the entire apartment, and we were supposed to have a little "cabinet" area above the closet, but when the maintenance people did such a great job painting, they foolishly painted over the extra cabinet closet hinges, thus preventing it from opening. Great. We were supposed to have our own storage space downstairs near the laundry room, but alas, we were never given the key. I would call up the company and ask for a key, but seeing as how they are SO incredibly rude, I don't even want to bother. Our apartment is really dark, so it doesn't help when maintenance fails to replace outdoor lighting fixtures in the common areas. Whoever decided to install the cheap vertical blinds for window treatments in this building was clearly not thinking because when the window is unlocked, the "locking mechanism" juts out and catches onto the blinds, thus making it impossible to open or close a window without breaking the blinds. I'd like to say that my partner and I have been good tenants, we've never bounced a check or had a late payment, nor have our neighbors ever complained. Despite the fact that all other Lee Street properties on the market were going DOWN in price, the lovely folks at Lee Street decided to significantly raise our rent upon renewal - I'm sorry - I'm not going to pay more for an apartment that is clearly falling apart, nor am I willing to pay more to make up for their losses in this crappy market! The fact that they're even raising people's rent in this economy shows just how greedy they are! Speaking of greed, we recently received a "moving out checklist" which states all of the cleaning tasks / costs - and it's funny because when we moved in, the apartment was horribly dirty and reeked of old, stale smoke! In fact, the smoke was so bad and dirty that if we were to take a warm shower with the door closed, all sorts of yellowish brown liquid would drip down the walls/doors! NASTY! It is my belief that this company bit off more than they could chew with all of the properties that they own - they can't even keep up with any of them!

didn't you view the apartment before you leased it? i mean, i'm just curious -- if it was such a dump why'd you rent it in the first place?

Just a note about viewing the apartment: When my husband and I came to Lee Street, I wasn't available to look. What my husband was showed was an apartment that was currently being worked on- and not the one we signed the lease for. While that's not exactly uncommon (when viewing complexes I'm usually shown a show-room apartment), It's becomming aparent that Lee Street is doing the "bait and switch".

This company is nothing but trouble! They never return phone calls or e-mails, and in the rare chance that you speak to someone, they're horrible rude and unprofessional. If you do anything to upset the company (such as, filing a complaint against one of their employers) they will retaliate in passive-aggressive childish manners - for example, parking one of their vehicles for days in the parking spot that was assigned to you and that you pay rent for separately, in addition to making deals with the towing company so it doesn't get towed. HORRIBLE COMPANY, HORRIBLE BUILDINGS...SLUM LORDS!!!!
