The idea of comparing Rome being built in one day to this condo conversion is laughable! I will say this to anybody thinking of buying a condo, talk to a resident who lives in the building! Ask them what they think of the new mgmt company and how they deal with current residents. Sure, they will treat you well when you are looking at the "new" units. But, don't you want to know how they will treat you once you live here' Take a HARD look at the construction being done here! It is below average at best! How do you like those "new" units that come with a 15 year old air conditioner' Just look around the lobby! Lots of clues there to show what a half-ass job this mgmt company is doing if you are serious about looking. My advice as a current resident who is looking to buy a condo, why buy a condo in a 30 year old building where you have the pleasure of listening to constant renovations when you can buy a new condo in a new building at any one of dozens of properties in chicago' I am sure there will be a great review (from the mgmt company within a few days of this posting), but as I said before, talk to a current resident when you visit this building! They can say whatever they want in these postings, but the truth comes from those who live here!

I totally agree. The building was built in 1956, however, so the building is over 50 years old. The stove in my unit is over 30 years old. Originally they said they were going to replace all plumbing (remember the handouts trying to get tenants to buy?), but now it looks like all they are going to do is add the laundry hook-ups in one of your closets and update the electric to bring it up to code for a condo (change from fuse boxes to circuit breakers). Nothing about upgrading plumbing is mentioned on the 2930north.com web site. So you are getting 50 year old plumbing, they are "redecorating" not replacing elevators, and they are not replacing the roof. These upgrades (and replacing air conditioners) will be special assessments the lucky condo buyers will have to deal with in the future. I advise people visiting the sales office to look at the crooked tiling as they are entering the sales office. I have never seen anyone take so long to lay tile, yet the workmanship is poor, and they still haven't put in baseboards in the mail room and the grand opening was in early February. If you plan to buy here, make sure you put in a contingency clause in your contract that you can obtain an independent appraisal and that the unit must appraise out. Since you have to use the developer's preferred lender to finance your purchase since this is a conversion, their appraisal will be totally meaningless. Oh, and your assessment only covers water, use of the fitness center and common elements. You will be paying your own electric, heat, and cable. The construction noise and mess is atrocious, and they have official work hours of 8 a.m. through 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, so don't even think about living here if you like to sleep in, work or study at home, or work the night shift and plan to sleep during the day. Funny how they were able to complete the sale on November 16 and have the construction on the driveway started in less than 2 weeks and basically make tenants use the back entry from November until February. Tenants are treated as a necessary nuisance here.
