Worst. Management. Ever.

I've lived here for 6 months, and I am still astounded by the contempt Dolly the manager shows toward her customers. You'd think she'd appreciate all that money coming in, but whenever I had to deal with her she fought tooth and nail against any accommodation to her tenants. Speaking of which, if you're planning on having a dog here, know in advance that in addition to the NON-REFUNDABLE 'deposit' they charge you at the beginning, they will also charge you a MINIMUM of $200 in pet related "damages" when you move out, regardless of what your pet actually does. Also, no effort to deal with the bums and junkies that hang out around the entrances at night. The laundry room is EXTREMELY unsafe to use - no one would ever know if you got in trouble down there and not very well lit.

I live there too - While I agree Dolly is a ------- idiot, the unsafeness of the Laundry Room is way off. it's clean, well lit, and there's a security camera that the doorman watches (same as the elevator). Don't get me wrong, Dolly is the worst manager ever, but my safety has never been in question. Bums and junkies by the entrances? Are you coming in via the loading dock! I've walked into and out of this building all hours of the day and night, and never once worried about safety.

I lived at the Belmont for two years - and from your response it doesn't appear that you actually have experienced true "bad" management. We loved the Belmont and would move back in a heartbeat if we went back to Chicago. We never found the laundry room to be unsafe, or any other area of the Belmont House. As the above response indicates - the doorman is always watching. Yes, the management staff can be difficult at times, you can't keep hundreds of residents happy all the time. But if you ever truely experience bad management in Chicago you'll wish you were back at the Belmont house!

I agree with marn913. I spent seven years in a dump in Wrigleyville with a manager who yelled at me and a maintenance man who would go to the wrong apartment to fix things or just do a terrible job. And I think it is great to be in a building where the management office is open every day so you don't have to wait a couple of days to get a call back. They are right there and have always been friendly to me. The laundry room is isolated, so if someone is uncomfortable with that they should use it during normal hours. The Belmont is a quality building and I've been happy here overall.

I have to agree with the aboves. I don't think the original reviewer has been paying too much attention. Although Dolly is a bit of a lush in my eyes and very difficult to agree with her actions are in no way effecting her job proformance. The building is beautifully run, the staff seems happy with their positions and the new camera system is great. Next time you're in the laundry room look up in the corner of the room there's a black camera there that Tim and the rest of the great doormen watch for our saftey. As for the bums, I have only run into one (at 3am)and that was on a snowy cold day in the winter and The doorman quickly and quitely ushered him on his way. I have been here 5 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. My daughter and her boyfriend are even looking at moving in when their lease is up in their current building.

Just look at Dolly what did you expect? Did you actually think she was going to be a class act? The management sucks! Don't forget the elevators, they never work either. We were on one the other day and it came to a complete stop and then dropped two floors. That was nice. I can't wait for my lease to be up!

I was just reading your comment and I am a little confused. Do you still live here or did you just move out? The reason I ask is how are you charged a fee if you only been living here for 6 months. I think you are just pissed because you did not like what Dolly told you. I don't think she cares how much money is coming in. She does not own the building....
Also, what are you talking about they have a camera system in the basement and it is so bright in the laundry room. I think you should move out or hopefully you already did.......
