Yo!

Deliberate stomping above

This place was a nightmare. The young couple above would deliberately stomp in heavy shoes at all hours. They then said they were doing it purposely because they did not like me. I was not cool enough to live in the building. No insulation between the floors. The management would not do anything. They said it was part of living there. The place is too expensive to be bothered so much by neighbor noise.

Stop acting like a helpless child and stand up for yourself. You have a right to quiet enjoyment of your apartment. And, I am almost certain your lease has a clause in it that cements this right. Dry your eyes and start reading your lease! Once you know what your rights are, you can stop other people from taking advantage of you.

There are organizations in Chicago that can assist you. So, you use your computer for more than just complaining. Take action!

As for your neighbors – Call the police! They are creating a disturbance, which if I am not mistaken, is STILL against the law. Trust me, if you call the cops on these idiots enough times, they will either get arrested or move!

I'd like to know what organizations in Chicago can help in this case? I left a similar situation at a different complex. The people above me stomped around and let their kid jump around and throw things on the floor at all hours. I complained to management, called the police, etc. Management claimed they could only ask the people to stop, the police said they had to witness the disturbances. So, short of having management and the police move in with me, I was screwed. I finally moved out two months early just to get away from those people.

Management can only strongly demand that the inconsiderate people stop, but they will not renew someone's lease if there are enough complaints. If the noise persists, and the inconsiderate idiots thumb their noises at management, call the police immediately, not after the fact. The first time I had to call the police, because my neighbor downstairs had this tendency to play very loud music in the middle of the night, I told them I wasn't sure if it was reportable. They said it was and sent someone out immediately.
